Can anyone explain why we call the front and rear body sections of a GT40 a CLIP?

Brian.

We don't. In our build manual they are called front and rear body sections.

I always wondered why everybody else called them clips. Those are the things that hold them down.

Andy

Just a bit of automotive 'slang' that has crept into everyday use, quite often hear it in racetrack conversations after a car hits the wall & a team member will state something along the lines of ' It will need a new front/rear clip to fix it '.

Wrecking Yard/Auto Dismantlers use the same terminology as well.

Guess your ankle deep in the brown stuff when you need a 'middle clip':):)

It's derived from the definition of clipping, as in cutting.

You clip the mangled front end off your wrecked car, and then clip the good front end off another car, then attach the good clip to your wrecked car, and suddenly it's not a wrecked car anymore. :>)
