Because of the devastating earthquake in Chile a Tsunami warning was issued for almost the entire east coast of Australia.
On the Gold Coast south of Brisbane the Authorities closed the beaches and told people to go home.
At the time the Tsunami was predicted to arrive people were lining the foreshore to watch! Some continued to swim ignoring the closed beach signs.
As it turned out nothing much happened other than a slightly higher than normal tide.
I think that had the Tsunami arrived as predicted it would have done wonders in improving the mental gene pool on the Gold Coast.
Go figure!

Well I'd love to say that vindicates NZ 1970s Prime Minister Rob Muldoon's statement that the movement of lower socio-economic NZers emigrating to Australia served to raise the average IQ in both countries....... but unfortunately I can't as we also had our fair share of Darwinian lemmings flocking to the waterfront for a look...... Go figure.

We have a few of these evolutionary mental giants in the good ol USA as well and they are home grown. Every time there is a hurricane, you see these fools out there surfing and then when they get trapped, they look for the rescue services to come to their aid. No shortage of lost brain cells here.

Like the big Northern California Mavericks surfing contest we had a couple of weeks ago. The waves were 30 to 40 feet tall offshore, where the contest was being held. They are so far offshore that you cant really see the contests from the beach. Anyway there were lots of spectators on the beach and were upset when a big wave rolled over the beach and got them all wet. Want to sue the organizers!

duh. big waves....flat beach....don't turn your back on the water...

Darwin award goes to the guy in California who tried to hold-up a convienence store.
He intended to SHOOT the clerk, pointed the pistol and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened so he looked into the gun barrel and pulled the trigger again, this time it WORKED! True story...

Given the proportion of Gold Coast residents made up of NZ's largest export industry (it's citizens), I'd say that could be a self defeating prophesy of Mr Muldoon....

Now where's my coat?

Now where's my coat?

That's true.

By the time future tsunamis wipe the Darwinians out, the the mean OZ IQ will drop back to where it was but that in NZ will continue it's upward trend!

Now where's my Nomex?

As much as I'd love to know, I'm still rather glad we won't be finding out.....maybe :stunned:.

When all is said and joked about over here, over there they've got a massive drama on their hands. Hope all (any?) Chilean members are unaffected.
