Detachable steering wheel

Has anyone installed a detachable steering wheel. It seems like it would make entry and exit of the car much easier. If so which one did you use. Thanks Jim

Yes Jim, several weld-on quick release attachments available over here in the UK, I would guess same over there? VERY handy.

Any racing supply house can help you out, you will need to pull the shaft out of the steering column and weld the adapter onto the shaft.
If you buy the kind of adapter that bolts on the splined end of the shaft you will find that it moves the steering wheel too far back.

HI,

My RCR has a detachable steering wheel as standard, and it will make ingress and egress easier. There are loads of aftermarket options although you may have to do some welding...

Cheers.

Graham.

fearsom,
A detachable steering creates a good news/bad news situation. It makes for more room for ingress and egress--don't you like those big words?--but you give up a "grab handle" to pull yourself out when it's removed. Similarly, the steering wheel is handy to grab hold of when sliding in. I find that the biggest advantage to having a quick-release steering wheel is when working in the interior such as the pedal area or under the instrument panel.

Good Luck,
Tom

Jim:
The unit from NRG that Lynn mentioned is really nice. I am using it on my build. It features connections if you care for a horn, also the wheel always finds the same spot in rotation, and has ZERO play. A really nice unit. They run around $139 but I got one on Ebay for $35.
Here's a couple of photos.
Cheers
Phil
