Door fitment

Hi

I have a dax40 which is currently undergoing minor(??) restoration. I have a problem in that where the passsenger door meets the windscreen frame, it sits quite proud. I'm sure it hadn't use to do this !! I am a little reluctant to start trying to undo the adjustment as the rest of the door seems to fit quite well.

Any thoughts or ideas would be most welcome

The Dax adjustment system is very basic and simple.

There is a pipe glassed into the door
Ther is then a long bolt that goes through 2 brackets (one top and one bottom)
To adjust the height of the door you adjust the nut at the bottom (usually lock nutted that the pipe rests on
To move the door in and out and back and front the 2 brackets (top and bottom both have slotted areas and the retained nuts will lock back int the new position.

To remove the door
Unscrew the bolt (big flat screwdriver job)
Lift the whole door up to clear the bottom backet
Swin the bottom outwards and lower until top of bolt clear top bracket

The painter who did ny car said it was the quickest and easiest set of doors he had adjusted in ages

On my Tornado, I had a slight misalignment at the top where the A-Piller blends into the top of the spider\windscreen. Door was 1\8" high and could not adjust flush without adversely affecting another area. Since I have a roll cage inside close to the spider I fabricated a firmed piece of rubber that essentially 'wedges' between the cage and spider thereby pushing the spider upward enough to take up the slight misalignment. Very happy with the results.

Stephen, don't be afraid of trying your hand at adjusting the door to fit better. Be patient and take your time and adjust it incrementally. One tip: place a soft cloth under the lower lip of the door in the area of the hinge so that if it drops down while the adjusting is going on you won't chip the paint.

My experience has been that where you have a door that fits poorly in one area, and adjusting that area makes a different area fit poorly, you're often left with just making a compromise and splitting the difference. That is, unless you can also adjust the surrounding panels to accommodate while not obviously compromising the fit on those panels. Be patient and careful and you should see an improvement.

Dear Cliff

Many thanks. I will do as suggested and report back. It may be a little while before I do this as I am engrossed in a number of other things.
