Engine oil. low vis/high vis. good or bad?

Interesting for sure. Read up on the GM 6.2L engine failures and resulting recalls. The spec oil was 0W20 weight. To fix the problem (or mask it from owners), GM changed the spec to 0W40.

Personally, I'll take the protection versus higher HP.

Samson racing engines wanted me to use 50 W Valvoline R in my SLC engine. They are a licensed supplier for SCCA TRANSAM racing. I have also been using straight 30W in my SBF that is in my GT40 for 20 years.

IMHO putting 0 dash anything into a $20K engine is just about the dumbest thing I ever heard of. My opinion is of course, free.

Prestige put Rotella T15/40 in my 582 build as well when run on the dyno. I have Driven 10W/40W break in oil in it currently.

I had the Rover V8 tuning specialists J E Engineering build up my engine a few years ago now and they were pretty definite on oil to use; 20/50. They said the older model engines were designed for use with higher viscosity oil. Engine's about 30 years old and still running fine.

The best 10 or 15-50 or 10, 15 or 20-60 Motul 300V. Its what any race machine of the sixtees is using in Europ.

15W50 as its now widely available as a beter option to the 20W50 which is quite thick on cold starts.
Motul Classic has 1800+ppm of ZDDP to protect any oldskool engine.
I use their 20W50 for beak in, (3 times. 25minuts 2500rpm, then 350miles & again 350miles) and after 700 miles I switch to 15W50 on all my engine builds.
