Enzo encounter, honor upheld

I took betty out for a little ride a couple of hours ago and what did I find, a brand new enzo. All nice and red and still with paper plates.

I followed him for awhile and got a real good look at the defusser under the rear of the car. The more I looked at it the more it looked like a open wheel car with full body work. Huge rear tires and all kinds of aero stuff under the car made of carbon fiber. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Anyway he finally looked out the back and gave me a kinda ya I know you are there wave. We drove along for awhile in moderate traffic at about 40-50 mph and I could tell he was sizeing me up. My car is loud and so I couldn't hear the Blasted Red Devil at all.

Finally he gave it a little, kind of rolled it on in 3rd I think, and good old betty stayed right up with him to about 80 or so until we ran out of room.

About 5 mins later I wes behind him again and he had a good look at betty when we were along side once or twice so I guess he figured I wasn't a fiberfab or something. We had to stop for a light and as we left on the green with me behind him I finally heard his motor. He must have decided to teach me a lesson because he hit it pretty good in second. Thats all I needed, about 50mph is betty's sweet spot in 2nd and I gave it all shes got before he could really floor it.I pulled into the right lane made the 2-3 gear change and went around him. Now I've got him because he hasn't really floored it yet and I'm at full song. Change into 4 at 6000rpm and kept it matted until I just didn't want to go any faster.

He got on it pretty hard but he never got along side until I had backed off.

DOWN WENT THE EVIL RED WITCH!!!! VANQUISHED BY GOOD OLD BETTY.

Anyway he pulled into a shopping center and I went on. He had to pull into a left turn lane at the light and I was along side him. He looked over just looked at me so I opened my door stuck my hand up out of the roof and waved. He kinda looked pissed.

Now I know that thing is faster, but he who draws first and can hit what they are shooting at offen finnish on their feet. Old Betty had enough for him that time! I think I scared him when I went blasting by. Betty is a LOUD old broad. Kinda like a half snockerd 40 year old big tited blond from Alabama at 2am saturday night. "Lets GOOOO honney!!! Get outa my way you skinny little princess! I'm a goin for it! Ya whoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweet!! I can imagine the look on his face.

Always nice to hear a story with a happy ending. Also, doesn't it make you feel good to know that any small mechanical/engine problem for him would likely result in a bill close to the cost of Betty's entire engine!

Nice one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Note to self: Must visit Alabama some time /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I had a play last Fridayt too with a prancing horse.
F355 rocketed up behind me while I was waiting for traffic to clear on the motorway (we were all doing 85 anyway).
Once clear of it I was just about to pull across to let him past when he flashed me, so I assumed it was Game On /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I dropped my car to 4th at 90, nailed it, and watched him go backwards /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
And what car was this in ?
An Audi estate /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Go Betty, Go!!!! Take that Enzo! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Nicely done Howard!

I wonder if Betty's "breast" reduction gave her an

aerodynamic edge? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Most internet "kill" stories involve Mustangs, Camaros, Supras, Evos, etc. Only on www.gt40s.com can we get a kill story involving a Ferrari Enzo and a GT40. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mark

Like I said, the signal-to-noise ratio here is great! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good job Howard! Probably some Enzo owner is telling a story about killing and Ford GT right now, not knowing the difference between the two.

I bet there is one GT40 on the board that could handle that thing Even Stephen - didn't Roy's car trap at 137mph in the quarter? If so that is enough to handle the Enzo, particuarily if done as a roll on and not as a launch since the launches are always the problem, particularily against the techno laden Enzo.

It was more like a quick kick in the balls than a queensbury rules kind of thing. But I'm 5'2" tall and I've learned not to fight the big guys fair.

Oh and I don't think it was dead just sort of suprised and feeling a little like he should pay attention next time.

Kinda like the double fisted flying punch Joe Pesci delivered to the big dopey Southern guy (no offence intended to anyone /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif) in the movie "My Cousin Vinnie". The little guy just surprised the big guy, but a win is a win and he took the money!
Good on you Howard and Betty!

Bill.

You know I was thinking about that and I figure he paid about ELEVEN TIMES MORE that I did for betty!

That thing is faster but not 11 times faster. God that guy must STILL be pissed.

I forgot to say that at that last light there was a 90's mustang with a couple of boys in it next to him with me behind the enzo. When the enzo first gave it a little I had to follow him and then pull in front of the mustang as I put my foot down.

Those two guys must still be telling that one! Anyway with 660 hp I don't think I'll try that again. Thats almost double mine with my 2450lbs to his 3100 I would never have a chance if the guy could drive it. Seams a shame really, all that car only for the rich guys. Too bad the mustang teenager couldn't give it a test drive.

I just checked my work. They weight 3009 pounds. 660hp is correct. That is a power to weight ratio of 4.55 my car is 2450 and about 370hp giving a Pw to Wt ratio of 6.62.

I guess you gotta shoot first and ask questions later in a deal like that.

Hey fred you got 550hp (P/W ratio of 4.3) don't you? Lets go enzo huntin in Danvile. THAT WOULD REALLY PISS HIM OFF WOULDN'T IT !!!!

That would make his car 22 times more than our two cars!

Damn thats friggin funny.

Howard. Great post. I just settle for telling any Ferrari owner I come across that it was the GT40 that killed Enzo. It broke his heart in 1966 and it took him 22 years to die. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Time for my medication. Hi Ron
not quite, in 2003 both Roy and I were trapped at 132MPH on the quarter (12.03 & 12.32) when highest attained by another 40 was 118MPH. Last year, Roys 11.83 only made 116MPH /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

This was sort of explained by club member Bob Macdonald, who wrote an interesting piece on just why your trap speed drops with improved ETs for a previous mag and a follow-up should be included in the next issue due at the end of this month.

We will look to make a visit to Santa-Pod at some point this year though - if only to compare the car on a decent road surface.(oh and Dave can try with/without his NOS /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

I believe James Philips has a few high speed events to play in with his F40 when he gets it back - As there may be an Enzo there too, perhaps we can blag an invite for comparison.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We will likely loose on a track to the Enzo, but Howard has had the best fun, getting the jump on an Enzo on the road (in public - he he he) well I'd be grinning for a week! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

ps - Tony Marsh made 137MPH in 1998 in the qtr with his 630BHP twin turbo MKII GTD running a Hewland box with Motec/Racelogic traction/launch control.
(Boy I would really like a drive in that car!)

Ahhh, I think I got the 137 and the 132 confused. Either way, if you guys trapped a 132, which I believe completely possible with the engine/tranny and attention to detail you've got, then I think you've got the power to handle an Enzo with roll ons. Lotsof other factors too, but you guys are making some power.

Look forward to seeing Bob's articles, the club mags always have good stuff. Dave running the spray yet? Has anything grenaded????? Scary stuff, N2O!

Hi Ron -

Nope - Dave has not run the NOS yet as I have yet to map the Motec. He has Gurston in a couple of weeks for 1st shakedown and then he too is having a pop at the magic 200MPH in July - 100BHP of N2O will be tested then.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now how long will a 10LB bottle last? not that you could fit a larger bottle onboard anyway...
