front brake ducting

Has anyone done front brake ducting on pre 100 series CAV GT40, any pictures would help.
I am trying to work out where to direct the cool air to. Because of the upright design, air cannot be directed to the center of the rotor. Do I simply direct the air to the rotor surface?.

Hi Syed,

It's best to plumb the air into the rotors through the vanes so both sides of the disc cool at similar rates. Just pumping air onto one face has produced cracking and warping.

Take a look at our front uprights, the entire inner bore is a natural to fix a mounting flange and cooling flex duct to. The air travels through the centre of the hub, before exiting through the rotor hat and vanes. This design also reduces heat soak on the wheel bearings.

Would be a very trick setup, and the rest of the improvements that come with the new uprights in geometry and strength are a bonus.

Ian, how do I duct air into the rotor so that it is forced out through the vanes at the outer edge of the disc?. Remember it is pre 100 series car, there does not appear to be much room for the air to enter through the center of the front upright. Also what is the best location the air intake.

There would have to be a shroud fabricated that would hook up the flex hose )possibly smaller diameter) below the steering arms at the upright. It would direct the air into the center of the upright where the air passes through the radial hole pattern and into the hat section of the brake disc. From there it would be drawn or blown through the disc rotors cooling vanes, unless you car has ATE discs in which case the vents face the outside of the disc. In that case your back to directing air at the face of the disc or possibly around the disc as in the pictures earlier in the post.

When I find a few more hours in the day I will make up the shroud probably for my own car, in the meantime it would be a great project for someone with our new steel uprights already.

In any event, the new uprights reduce heak soak to the bearings, allow flow through air, improved geomtry and can take ducting...

Hi Ian, the rotors are ATE on my car so that the vents open up on the outer side of the disc. You are right, I may have to direct the airflow to the outer edge of the discs.
