But if such techonlogy is available, why not install it in addition to all existing safety mechanisms (obviously depending on cost/budget etc)?

Cool - never saw that video before but SawStop has been around for a while and surprisingly not being accepted by the woodworking community as much as you'd think (although maybe it is starting to.) I worked at a company that was pretty much a large cabinet shop about 10 years when SawStop started making its rounds. Believe it or not, they never installed it.
