Hi All
An interesting thread this. I feel that to a certain extent many modern GT40 replicas already have updates. Most DRB GT40's interiors are significantly more modern and comfortable looking than an original car. Exterior too. Modern mags, in your case modern mirrors. Same for Roaring Forties, although I think theirs sticks a little closer to the original ideal.
As a 32 year old aspiring GT40 owner, this modernisation is something I will definitely be wanting to do to my car when the time comes. I adore the shape of the GT40, the fact that a car designed in the 60's can still look so awesome, and the fact that it comes up to only your waist is really just amazing. Keep the body close to original. However, for the interior I have some whacky ideas that reflect my taste that have been inspired by a diverse range of cars including the Cuda G-Force, the Ford GT, my own old Audo A4, and of course, the original car.
Part of the beauty of many of the GT40 kits though is that for those who want a pretty close replica of an original, this too is very possible. As we have seen with some of the RCR builds (Bill D I think springs to mind with the detail he is putting in).
So to answer the original question regarding trends, I think we will continue to see builds that are very old school that stick the original look and feel, but as was guessed by the member who started this thread, we will also see many new builds come through that have a more modern take.
Actually, this is one of the things I love about this forum. As each new car gets built we get to see some of the ideas and tricks people have used on their cars to make them that much more driveable, liveable and user friendly. Things like the reverse proximity indicators etc are all little touches that the people who peruse this forum might like to incorporate.
Anyway, better do some work.
Regards
Jack
