This modification is for the installation of leather door pull handles to the inside of the GT40 doors. It is VERY important to note that you can not use the door latch release cable to close the doors on an SPF GT40 (not for long anyway). The cables break at their mounting points. Many of the original cars of the day had similar type leather handles to those described here. They look cool and work great without damaging the doors when closing. The parts are available from Constantines Wood Center and the total cost for both doors is less than $15. This application uses the “Classic Natural” style but other styles are available to meet your particular desire. The brass handle fittings are also from Constantines. They come with a brass finish which I powder coated black wrinkle. As shown, I used #6 SS Allen head cap screws. DO NOT use sheet metal screws. This may be overkill to get the job done but it makes for a very sanitary appearance and won't "pull out" like a sheet metal screw. There is no "correct" place to put these handles. They were all over the place on original cars. Place them where you like them.
