GT40 Uprights

Here's a pic of an original magnesium GT40 rear upright with the new CAV GT steel upright and the old CAV cast aluminum upright at the back.
Just to clarify old vs new CAV, the parts made by CAV Canada, like this steel upright, are upgrade replacement parts made for the first 100 production cars. Post s/n100 CAVs from Autofutura have factory upgraded parts already fitted.
On my shipping scale the magnesium part comes in at 5.5 lbs, our steel part at 10.lbs and the cast aluminum part with its' steel bolt on mounting block comes in at 10 lbs also.
There are several knock offs of the original GT40 part around. It's fairly simple to make a casting that looks like it externally. Close examination of the part reveals a marval of hollow core casting and hence the light weight.
The front hub is even more impressive a casting and the machine operations to make the part are quite intense compared to normal production car standards.
I've said to people holding the upights in their hands that these part look more like they were for a Harrier Jump Jet than a car, fantastic stuff!
