Does anyone have any recent experience purchasing Gurney Eagle heads and the current value? We have 1 new and 1 that's been rebuilt but I just don't see these come up often. Was told they could be in the $10k arena? Help!
Well, they are somewhat special from a historical perspective but don’t look that special compared to some of the performance offerings you can get these days.
Value with these sort of things depends on providence and condition. If you have both and can prove it then for the target audience (a small number of buyers) they are worth money.
For the general GT40 enthusiast looking to drive the car, the condition and completeness would be of the utmost importance. So a full set of valve gear/valves and everything needed to bolt it on and make it work.
if it’s missing those bits then price will be less.
Thanks for the feedback Ryan. The new set has the heads and valves only. The rebuilt one is more complete (covers, valves, rocker arms, springs,) but is still not complete.
My apologies for the confusion. There is one new full set, left and right, that includes the heads and valves only (no other components). The used/rebuilt set is also a full left and right head set, but includes the additional components (rockers, springs, etc) pictured. Hope this makes sense and I've reshared 2 pics of each pair
Hello Tom, was it your intention to seek to sell them on as I would be interested. They need to have a pressure test done if they are to be used and this will assist in their value otherwise they are only of static display use.
As Simon says though buyers would be more interested and value will be higher if you have them pressure tested as some castings were apparently known to go porous (according to Peter Knight, who is the UK go to guy for GW heads).
