Hi,
I am currently on holiday from the UK in South Africa. Last Thursday I was driving down to Cape Point from Capetown and what do I see whizzing by on the other side of the road but a GT40 in Gulf livery. Next minute it has turned round and overtaken me so I waved out of the window as it sped by. I chased after it and caught it up at the traffic lights (called robots down here). As it shot away I chased after it in my VW Polo hire car - fat chance! It turned off the main road and so I followed but it disappeared down a private road under a barrier so I didn't get the chance to follow for a chat. The car had webers and a CAV sticker on the back panel. Sorry we didn't get the chance to chat but the car looked and sounded great and it was a real pleasure to see one in SA. I hope I see more over in Port Elizabeth where I am now this week.
Cheers
Mike

Hi Mike

The only GT40's you might see in PE are Superformance's at Hitech.

Phone me on 082 770 6391 if you want. I can't guarantee anything but I can give you Jimmy's phone number

Cheers

Mike –

That sounds suspiciously like my car. (What number was on it?) There just aren’t too many Gulf CAV's running around Cape Town. Perhaps Jean was testing it, as they just installed the Webers. I’m due to pick it up next week while there on holiday.

It sounds to me you were almost at the CAV factory in Westlake, as suburb of Cape Town. If you are still in Cape Town stop in a take a look at the factory. Good stuff. If in the area – be sure to drive Chapman’s Peak and Clarence Drive and do the “Four Pass” tour if you have time.

Gordon.

Hi Gordon,
I'm sorry I didn't note the number as I was so surprised to see a forty there. It seems like you are right as we were near westlake just outside of Capetown. We were unable to do Chapman's peak as it was closed due to a landslide. Also the table mountain cable car was closed for maintenance. Hope you like the webers when you get your car back - they really look good.
Cheers

Hi Mike - hope you are having a good holiday. As you know I'm a big fan of webers for their ease of setting up and the way they save you so much fuel....? Have got you a Le Mans track sticker for your car when you get back. See how I look after you.

Hi John,
You are a gentleman. I might even carry on cleaning your fouled up plugs for you!
See you at the Oulton Park Gold Cup.

Hey Mike. Had a laugh the other day. Just finished fitting the perspex,s to John's car so decided to fill the car up for its return trip. Setting of at a road junction, BANG. Drive shaft snapped. I think this car needs a proper gearbox to alleviate the drive shaft angle problem which doesn't help the shafts at all. Any ideas!

It cant be stress as John doesn't drive it too hard so.........I think the drive shaft problem is very much related to weight. I know the car isn't too heavy so .....any ideas? I've heard also that there is a very good gearbox available which will do the trick but I have forgotten the name of it for the moment.
Back soon.....
Cheers
