Hi everyone,

After many years of dreaming, I've decided to take the first steps towards building a Mark II replica. Having gone through a somewhat extensive restoration/modification of a 1967 Mustang, I know all too well of the value that forums can provide. I have a little more then a year left before I'll have finished my B.A. in Mechanical Engineering, and I'm looking to start the research phase of this project.
I'm not terribly sure if this is the proper section to ask in, but right now I'm trying to find some good sources of knowledge on how to get started. I've searched through some of the sticky threads in different sections, but I haven't found anything that outlines the basics of building a replica; sort of a beginners guide. Anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome Shaun!

I think you've come to the right Forum as there is a wealth of knowledge here. I would expect that a "beginner's guide" to replicas would be a daunting task since no two manufacturers use the same methods and certainly no two builders are alike in their aspirations. But I believe an aggregate of information is available here that, once you've gotten through a number of threads researching your MarkII, will enable you to obtain a good fund of knowledge to get started. I do not believe such a guide exists, however, the build diaries here on the forum can be very useful. Building a GT40 is a daunting task, but much like the 67 mustang, if you look at it as a series of small tasks it becomes much easier to digest. At least you do not have to deal with old rusty poorly fitted parts on a gt40 build as you do on an old classic and that alone is refreshing. Also , you end up with a car that handles well with good solid suspension.

Shaun, welcome!
Research this forum and you will have an understanding of "what it takes" to build a MKII. Although there are many different methods used for particular tasks, you can glean the information here and make your decisions. Folks are very helpful with sharing info.
