Got to visit with two wonderful ladies at the 3 day indoor Coastal Virginia Auto show over the weekend - Heather Storm from Garage Squad and Amanda Martin from Iron Resurrection.
Anyone else experienced an inline fuel pump failure where it started spraying fuel from the discharge end of the pump housing? I was driving to a car show 2 miles from home and when I arrived, folks started waving their arms and shouting "shut if off - it's puking fuel" I shut it off and immediately smelled gas. Got out and a large puddle formed under the drivers' side. It continued to piss fuel for about 20 minutes. I was a cigarette watch nervously hoping nobody came by and ignited things! After the show ended 6 hours later, I trailered it home. The culprit was the main fuel pump, a DeatschWerks 350il. Ordered a replacement from SUMMIT and installed the new one. If I had been driving on the highway when it happened, it would have likely ignited and made for a grisly end....
Got the answer - the pump had a TSB (attached). I spoke to Bill at RCR and confirmed they had ordered my pump to support my specific engine setup (No issue to other customers/builds).
