John Willment

A legendary name in GT40 circles
Willment Cars
Hopefully I have persuaded his nephew Charles, to make himself known to this forum and share some memories with us if he would be so kind.

Hi Simon, thanks for the invite.
Not really sure how I can help you guys as I do not own a 40. Like them though and have sat in quite a few as a passenger only (more's the pity).

I run a 79 JPS Lotus esprit ( No 070) which makes a regular pilgrimage to the 24hr and the classic and goodwood.

I did enjoy the looks on my friends faces on their first visit to Le Mans when I casually mentioned that 'my' family had won the race three times.
And they were foolish to doubt too, as it cost them beerly when they looked it up. JW Automotive - owned by John Willment run by John Wyer.

In answer to the question I can hear you all thinking, NO I do not have ANY parts for 40's or a secret stash of JW teamwear, although I do have a Ford sidevalve engine that John built ( and I have just rebuilt) but it's not for sale as it is going into an 50's Kitcar that is veeerrryyy slowly coming back together. Honest.

I'll try and keep an eye on future posts but I run a forestry / samill / timber sales malarkey (www.treespanner.co.uk) from here on the farm and I only get to sit at a computer when it rains or snows ( thats quite often at the moment but it WILL be spring soon PLEASE) so hmmmm.

Good to see such great interest in 40's and all their variants.
My tastes run to the earlier Fords that John played with - Cortinas, escorts and even the Galaxy which is like racing in the QE2 with hyperdrive. Check out www.willmentcars.com for lots of pictures and stuff.

Will speak / rant again soon

regards

Charles Willment

Hi Charles,
Welcome to the forum.
When you're at the Le Mans Classic this year, come down to the GT40 Enthusiasts Club enclosure (it should be just down from Paddock 5). You will see upwards of 80 GT40s and Ford GTs and will be very welcome. The best time will be about 2100 on Friday, when we've just come off the track.

I see in this month's Motorsport that the family are developing a book on John & JWA
