Kennedy adapter and "machining" of transaxle

Hello;
I received my Kennedy adapter kit and the instructions state that the 996 transaxle bellhousing needs to be machined for clearance of the starter. Kennedy forgot to ship the starter so I'm a little in the dark. Can anyone help to clarify this machining? Am I at a standstill until the starter shows up?
Thanks in advance

Bob, I also used the Kennedy adapter for my 302 to a 997 inverted similar to your 996. The modification to the housing is easy but needed to cut out a little more than shown in the picture attached. After assembly a little more shaving was needed for the starter engagement. Also attached is a picture of the starter I used. Hope this helps.
