grahm,
It can go either way. The Aero units mount in just about any position. If you look at their site you will see the way they can be configured. They can come up through the bottom or from the side to accomodate the front clip sliding into the base. I believe the interest came from inadvertantly not latching the rear hatch and it poping open under speed. The Aero units can't be forgotten because you can't lock it without the key, and the latching mechqanism stands tall til it is shut. And if you did forget to lock it, it still would be latched.
I personally would like it for both. I am not building a period correct car and can buy many aero units for the price of a set of Hartwells.

Bill would you use normal latches for the sides with aerocatches on top only. I wonder if normal latches on the sides will look a bit less heavy?

What do you think?

Graham,
What I plan to do is use the aeros on the rear clip at the top of the clip for the reasons mentioned earlier. I plan to use some pull downs similar to the Hartwells but less expensive. They came with the car when I bought it. They may even be stock items at GT 40 Australia??

The reason is, the rear clip needs to be pulled down snug to seal the opening and make the shut lines as they should. The aeros are to just hold in place. I don't think they would take kindly to loading a force on the mechanism.
On the front, the clip just sits there and doesn't need much force applied to hold it in place. What I am thinking at this time is to use the aeros in place of the clip hold downs on the side latch area. The water seals that I have seen that appear to work well are attached to the ledge that the front clip rest on. They are placed under the edge of the front clip and act more as a dam to keep water from entering the bonnet area. That's my take on it. Therefore not needing much force to seal if any. Just have to make sure it doesn't cause the bonnet to sit up from its base altering the shut lines. Still playing with that part.
