Looking for a SLC for sale

Good afternoon everyone
I have been dreaming of this car for a few years and it’s one of the reason I decided to settle in the USA.
I give myself til the end of the year to find a SLC , finished, running project , or complete kit barely started. Otherwise I will order one to Fran.
Preferably white with race tail but open to any other configurations. I m located in LA but can travel easily. Please contact me before advertising your car on Bat or other platforms.
See you

Make sure you understand the CA DMV rules for bringing an out of state "kit" car into the state and registering it if that is your end goal. Certainly can advise as many have done that here on the forum.

thank you Lee. That’s the SB100 registration process if I m not wrong ? I m a bit familiar with it and know someone who can handle it for me.
Any difference between a car you built yourself in California and a kit car you import from another state already completed ?

Correct, SB100 process. The difference is a car you built in state starts the process fresh with no existing title. A car built outside the state will have an existing title that in some cases can be used to attempt to "confuse" the DMV. By that I mean people register a kit cobra in another state and get the title to say "1965 Cobra" and then try to sneak that by the CA DMV as same. That is a no-no.

The correct process is to run the purchased car through the same SB100 process. I have been "told" by those that have done it, you need the same level of documentation. 1. Who built / assembled the car 2. The full receipt package for body, chassis, motor, trans, labor, parts, etc. 3. Manufacture's original MSO (or copy of it), 4. Pictures of car being built (not sure on this one). The problem with SB100 is it is not a precise process and each location seems to handle it slightly differently.

Not trying to scare you off, was just preparing you for this. If you have someone that specializes in doing this for clients, that is certainly a way to get it done. I have heard prices like $2500 per car.

Best of luck in your pursuit.

I've done two SB100 cars. Its really a matter of following the process step by step.

Be sure to get receipts for as much of the parts as you can. Any previous sales tax paid will be treated as a credit against the amount you will pay in calif state use (sales) tax when you register it.

Every large metopolitan area has a DMV that knows what they are doing with SB100.,Where do you live in Ca;ifornia?

Thank you Howard for all the informations.
I live in OC. I have already someone who will do the registration on my behalf for a bit less than 3000$. It’s his full time job.

California charges "use tax" on vehicles purchased outside the state and brought in. If you had purchased the car in another state originally, the credit applies. Since he has not, I believe he will pay use tax on whatever price he pays. Every car is charged sales or use tax unless you are the original purchaser from another state.

If it is an incomplete car (pile of parts, kit, etc.) then any of the parts that have had sales tax paid on them will have the sales tax credited towards the total use tax in calif, The calif use tax is equal to the calif sales tax. If you paid 5% sales tax on something in another state and calif sales tax is 10% then you will owe another 5% sales tax on that part not the full 10% calif sales tax value IF you have recipes for the other state.

If the car is a new complete car bought in another state then you will p[ay the difference in sales tax you paid to buy the car in the other state and what the sales tax would be in calif. This is modified by the sale of a used car and generally will be based on the used sales price and any tax paid in the other state at the time of purchase. However as the car loses value over time a new "value" will usually be applied to the car as it enters calif to establish the use tax value, This also can be reduced by the sales tax paid at the time of purchace if recent. Otherwise calif usually sets a value for the car from their database to establish the owed use tax.

The Full Faith and Credit Clause (Article IV, Section 1) generally applies to judgments and official records, rather than direct sales tax. However, the Commerce Clause limits interstate sales tax to prevent double taxation. Most states allow you to credit sales or use tax paid in another state against their own local tax, effectively avoiding duplicative taxation

May I suggest you drive or ride in one so you know what you are getting into and what kind of specs you are willing to live with , depending on how you are going to use the car .
I think the factory backlog is quite long but I do not know for sure.
Good luck with your search . There are a couple of SLCs for sale on facebook.
