There's a ZF out of a Maserati Bora up for grabs on e-bay right now:

This gearbox is less suited for use in a GT40 than other ZFs; the tail-mount bracket will either need to be cut away, or a replacement piece fitted, and the input shaft is a different length, with a different spline pattern and a different diameter at the end, so a custom clutch disc and a custom pilot bushing would be required.
I believe that the Bora gearbox ran in the same orientation as the Pantera, meaning upside down relative to the GT40, which would mean that it would have to come apart and have the ring and pinion changed, and internal changes made to the case to ensure proper oiling (can somebody confirm the Bora's ZF arrangement please?)
So, this represents a starting point, but far from a finishing point for a GT40 gearbox IMHO....
