I believe that Mr John Dodds was the loonie that started all this 'Spitfire Rodding' in the '60's. A real British eccentric, nice guy and rebel to boot. I used to meet him with the MKII version at the dragstrip before the infamous Rolls Royce court case (and the unfortunate fire).
It's also perfectly true that he was one of the very few auto transmission gurus in the UK (then & now), and often went across the channel in the car to go fix someone's trans....
This vehicle, like the one Frank mentioned had the de-tuned Meteor engine, but a Merlin derivative nevertheless.
