I had to revisit this thread because I grew up with Matchless, AJS and Royal Enfield posters on my wall when a mere nipper.
Later I had altogther more expensive (but softer) rides put up.:shocked:
Paulo, your sound description would be better suited to an NSU moped, but a single 500cc would sound more like my all time favourite big banger: BSA Gold Star 350/500

Thats the sound alright, my neighbooors (sic) are very tuned into it and someone called the cops last time I started it. They turned up had a look complimented me on the bike asked lots of questions about the GT40. Then said have a nice day and left. Good blokes.
Pete, maybe next time you need to start the 40 up with some straight through pipes, give em something to really complain about :laugh:
