Need some help with direction

I'll be getting the chassis back Sat, Oct 6. The plan is to fully disassemble the chassis, paint it, and then reassemble the car with everything but the body. While I'm doing this, the painter will be shooting color.

I still need to measure for a throttle cable, mount the shifter, cut a hole in the tub for it to pass through, and check fitment of the AC and alternator. But with only 4 weeks to do all this, should I go ahead and paint the chassis first and then do all the other items?

Hi Bill

If it was me, i would complete the fit out first, then paint, because less chance of damage of painted areas, and you are not left with any raw edges, to be patched in at a later date, best of luck, Andy

You've come this far Bill, might as well get everything else fitted, cut and measured now. Would suck to damage the new chassis paint. Is 4 weeks a realistic time-frame for you?

Damm, 4 weeks vacation - mostly dedicated to your build would be a dream for most guys! Well have at it and give your best Ron McCall 28hr day build impersonation and you should be fine... :P

Any sneak preview of the paint scheme or is it a surprise?

Having seen your work todate I would think that you would/will do a careful job of finishing up the work mentioned above on your painted chassis without any dammage. It's really the same thing, measure, measure, measure, and then drill/cut. You might want to get some of the paint put into a small container, pint size, so you can hand touch up the edges after cutting etc.

Leave the painted bodywork in the house, spare bedroom works best, until it's ready to go on.

Chris-
The paint scheme will be a surprise. And I guarantee, it will be a show-stopper!

Howard-
The plan is now to fit the engine/transaxle in order to route the throttle cable and shifter, THEN paint the chassis. It may require a few additional hours, but like you said, I've come this far, I might as well do teh job correctly.

Thanks

Hang in there Bill. I'll echo what Chris Martino said, you've been so patient so far. Take the time and do it the way you think it should be and do it right.

Sounds like there's light at the end of your tunnel at this point though. Congrats!

Nope.
Just got a call from the painter. He needs another week to work the body before I can pick up the chassis. :(

I'm also waiting for my transaxle to be finished. But that's another story.
