This car likely began as P3 0846. It was raced and crashed by Ferrari and in 1967 was converted by Ferrari into a P4. The differences being a Ferrari 5 speed box rather than a zf, lucas mechanical fuel injection and revised body work. This P3/4 won Daytona in 1967. It was converted by Ferrari to a coupe from a Spyder and entered at LeMans in 67. While being driven by Amon a tire went flat and Amon tried to change it but the head of the hammer flew off and he tried to drive back to the pits. The wheel caught on fire and the remains were returned to the Ferrari factory where they were "destroyed" to advoid owing taxes. The engine, gearbox, other remains,P4 blueprints, and factory spares were aquired by David Piper from Enzo Ferrari who built them into a P4 which he raced with Ferrari's blessing as Ferrari pulled out of sportscar racing for a period.
I aquired this car from Piper along with a spare coupe body and began restoring it. To me the P4 is the most beautiful of all of these cars and the engine, 24 spark plugs,36 valves,240ci displacement and 450Bhp is superb. At 1750lbs it's pretty wild.
