Newbie question

Hi folks.

I'm a newbie here and I'm making early plans for an RCR-40. I see there's standard, deluxe and deluxe plus kits on the RCR website. I'm curious what you think of the value for the deluxe and deluxe plus.

I built an FFR Cobra (that I have to sell before I start on a GT40, btw). I thoroughly enjoyed building it. I like the looks of the RCR and it seems to be very high quality. I like the idea of the deluxe plus because it includes so much. However, am I missing out on too much of the build process? Is there still a lot of assembly, or is it 'turn-key minus'? I'm looking to spend some serious time on the build, but I want the best value. Based on what I've read, RCR is quality all the way, so why not buy the deluxe plus?

Thanks for your input. I'll call RCR later, but I wanted your opinions first.

I have an SL-C which comes more or less as a deluxe package. If I were to build an RCR40, I'd go for the deluxe plus. Still plenty for you to do.

I was initially worried about the same thing (I didn't want a project that I'd be finished after 2mths), but it's definitely like a factory five in terms of how you have to put it together mechanically.

With the FFR, everything's in the box, so you get hte fun of going 'WTF are all these spindle bracket holes for? Which ones do I use???!??! :blank:'; here (atleast on the slc) suspension is hung together so you see how it goes together properly, then you disassemble and then re-assemble.

So far I've found it comparable to building my cobra, albiet with much much better parts and body. Btw, my understanding is that the gt40 is even more involved than the SLC with the bodywork, so if you like a challenge it'd be perfect for you.....me, I like something that offers a bit of challenge while allowing me to assemble it and believe that I'm totally the world's greatest mechanic/builder (even though I'm anything but  )

Ha! Thank you both. That was just what I was looking for. I enjoyed building my Cobra almost as much as I do driving it. When you really build it, driving it is so much more fun. I remember well those days of opening boxes. Like you, I really like the assembly. I like body work, but I'm horrible at it. I ended up taking my Cobra to an expert to "finish it off".

I enjoyed building my cobra far more than I do driving it - I mean, it's fun, but to me, sitting there and plotting out wiring routes, brake line runs, drill&tapping (And then breaking taps, lol) is much more fun, so I was very pleased to see all that work still existed in the RCR to do. I like a project that lets me feel like the world's greatest mechanic, even though I'm anything but.

Although sometimes Fran much really wonder about me :uneasy:

Today I asked him why the powdercoat on my rollcage was cracking and flaking away really easily ..... the answer - it's primer to stop rust, not powdercoat. :quirk:

Good thing he doesn't charge additional $$$ per conversation, otherwise I don't think I could afford to build a car
