Painting fibreglass body shell

Hi There,
I am looking for some advice, hope thats ok. I have to repaint the rear of a gt40 for a friend. I restore cars for a living so am not used to the graphic work and not sure how you guys do it. The car in question doesnt have a vinyl by the feel of it, its a beutiful job so I want to be sure to get it up to the standards of the rest of the car. I did think it had been done using fine line tape but then noticed the word ford on the lower door which obviously wasnt. Its the grey/blue colour with a thick white stripe and two thinner blue stripes running down the side of that. Is there some kind of transfer or template to do this with. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Toby

Hi Toby

Seeing you are in Oxford I would believe the closest person who could possibly assist would be Briam Magee

He is based near Newbury - so reasonably close

Je does "sticker" stripes but no doubt could also de templates for you to spray whatever graphics / wording you require thereon

Try sending him a PM throught his forum - I'm fairly sure he'll respond

cheers

You can layout the stripes using a laser level. Fine line tape is a must.
I went to a sign shop and had the sill stripe templates made for US$50. They were a self-stick vinyl and the stripes and "Ford" were cut out in reverse to act as a paint template. Go heavy on clear and the parting line will disappear. People really notice the painted stripes versus vinyl application.
