Pantera to GT 40

Hello Guys, This is an interesting topic. I have Both GT40 and Lightweight space Frame Pantera. I have lookedat using my chassis to go under the Pantera for our next replica Supercar Project. The Pantera interior uses a tunnel stiffener and this seperates the driver and passenger, but leaves no room for a side sill like a Forty. So where would you put the fuel cells? In the rear bulkhead like the Pantera? Therefore you would need the extra length of the Body in the Middle 3" to fit fuel tanks.

I have a full space frame Pantera and Lightweight Fibre Glass body over it. The Track is wider and wheel base slightly Longer (More like a Lambo Countach) Though It can be turned into a Modern GT40 without too much issue. If you take the new GT40 interior is also a tunnel centre (like Pantera) then you will see its not that difficult. Then if we had enough Money,we could all build space shuttles!!!

Cheers

Veek,

You would be hard pressd to buy even the spark plugs at a Linclon-Mercury dealer. Ford carries NO parts for the Pantera, they closed them out in the early 80's and don't even supply parts for the 351 Cleveland....

If you want amusement walk into a parts dept. and ask for a ball joint for a Pantera.....the few dealers who still have a parts book or microfiche will get up after they finish rolling on the floor laughing.

Hi Guys, I agree the 351C is old hat now. Most Engine shops still supply the basics for the Gaskets, pistons etc, but the dress up equipment is harder to find if at all in the Uk especially. If I go to producing the Pantera as a Body chassis (Space frame and Fibreglass) I will probably use 289, 302, 302 Fuel injection like the later Pantera's and 351 windsors. I have two Clevelands here, an original Pantera and a two port version. They are getting rare and so are the parts. Have you checked out how much parts are on the Pantera shops in the States? Makes my GT40 parts look cheap!! I was thinking of using my Pantera unit in my Black Mark two GT40, just for now.. I have my Eye on a big block at sensible money also!!

Many Regards

351C are still plentiful here in Australia, with many high performance units selling for less than $2000 AUD. (thats about 800pounds or $1300 usd)
Most 351C are priced at around $1000 AUD for a decent engine and high performance parts are still available OEM.

Bill.

ha. . .I don't think I would want to do that to a Pantera. . . /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Bill, Dont get me wrong I like 351C, I have two. One's a Pantera Engine going in my Lightweight Pantera (Space frame and fibreglass body) The other is probably going in a Mark 2 Gt40. If we could get the Aussy 351C over here cheaply I would use it regularly. The Aussy Blocks are stronger in the castings. But shipping them from you to UK is the BIG SNAG.. You would have to ship a container load of them some would be U/S and not worth rebuilding, the rest would still be expensive to rebuild because of the lack of off shelf parts here. Unless of course you want to build them down there and ship them here ready to fit!! Now that'd be good.

Cheers

I'm sure something could be arranged. I have access to 2 excellent builders of 351C, I could do some costings on the matter.....
