Rear View Mirror

I'm in the process of installing an Auto-Vox T9 rear view mirror/camera in my SLC and was wondering if anyone has done something similar and if so what the mirror/screen mount distance is from the windshield? I have the seats and interior out of the car so it's a bit tough to figure out the best placement so was wanting to double check. I'm worried about being able to touch the screen controls when I'm buckled up. Thanks. Scott

I took the roof panel out of the car and am thinking of drilling and taping the front hoop right in the center to mount the mirror/screen. Anyone have any thoughts if this is a good or bad idea?

The T9 seems to be quite a nice screen. It looks like an OEM mirror, the mount can swivel enough to mount on the roof of the car and it's 1080P. It operates as a fulltime rear view camera and has a setting to turn the parking grid off. I also bought a very small (.75") flush mount 1080P camera for $28 (CDN) that I'm mounting in one of the grills beside the license plate so I can avoid having to drill any holes in the car.

Will hopefully end up with a fairly clean look, and be functional. Just using the mirrors is scary.

Let me know what you think.

I mounted mine using nut-serts in the roof panel itself and it's been holding up great for 5K miles so far. It's a completely different screen (a full screen rather than a rear-view mirror layout). It's about even with the rollbar hoop though -- slightly behind. The position is good to reach, see the screen, but not block forward visibility. There's a lot of variability depending on how you position your seat though, so I'd recommend holding off on a permanent mounting until you've positioned your pedals, seat, steering wheel.

Unless you have t-Rex arms you should be able to reach damn near everything in there, even over to the passenger side.

I would highly suggest mounting the camera up top of the spider in the rear. That’ll give you a view of your tail and an extreme wide view side to side. You’ll then see directly next to you just by looking left/right and then absolutely everything in the blind spots with the camera. It nearly eliminates need for the mirrors.

I did something similar. The camera is mounted on the spider so I have a better view behind me. The only problem is the screen isn't quite bright enough. In direct sunlight, sun shining into the car interior reflects on the screen and washes out the image. It makes it worse with sunglasses on. I made new side mirrors with larger glass so my visibility is still pretty good

I have found that when I use my 7 inch monitor that is mounted in the same locations as Marks I have a interesting mental interpterion delay in what I am looking at. Its not at all like looking into a mirror. My brain seems to instantly interpolate the visual information from the mirror but not from the monitor.

I have a relatively low cost monitor that the picture looks good when simply viewing it but when trying to very quickly glance up to check my six on track its hard to see what I'm looking at. Especially critical distances., relative velocity's and vehicle types,. Its kind of like the mirror is 3D and the monitor is 2D.

I was thinking that a much better monitor might help but I am not sure resolution or refresh rate is the problem.

Does anyone else have this seemingly "mental" visual interpterion delay issue ?
