Redline Weber

Anyone have any experience with the Redline Weber ECU and how it compares to the Motec M48 for a fuel injection setup??

Mike, while I have no first hand experience with this ECU, I've looked at it previously for another V8 application and can tell you that it's being sold under at least three different names by three different organisations worldwide, so it's a pretty versatile box and it's gained a lot of exposure with some diverse applications:

The Audi hotrodding crowd know it as the 034EFI ECU
EMS in Oz sell it as the EMS8860
Redline/Weber sell it as the 422/822

If you do a Google on any of these models, you'll find distributors and user forums with lots of info about this EMS.

What I like about it is that it has 8 ignition outputs and 8 injector outputs. No waste spark, nor batch firing of injectors. So, on paper anyway, it offers a lot of bang for the buck.

I am using the Redline ECU on my Ford 392 with stack injection in my Daytona Coupe. It is incredibly versatile. I have the spark and fuel version and my only issue is it has so much adjustability that my learning curve was steep! Once I got it figured out, I love it. One of the best features for a stack set up is the ability to mix TPS with the fuel map (kpa x rpm). This allows you to better manage fuel in situations where you rapidly close the throtle plates (high speed followed by braking). Without this feature too much fuel would be injected and thunderous back firing results! Also, as all stacks are speed density, at low rpm you can better stabilize the idle and transition by running more TPS over riding the fuel map and slowly reducing it to nothing as the rpms go up. To John's point, you set the firing order and it allows you to advance the time electronically both with rpm (mechanical) and manifold pressure (vacuum).

Bottom line, it is a great system with a lot of flexibility, but you will need to devote the time to understand the flexibility and impact of adjustments as they are all interrelated. Good luck in your decision!

Mike,

I don't know enough about the Motec to comment. Chuck's advice is good. Wayne at VCP has used all of them and can give you a very good steer even if you don't buy from him.
