Restarting my SLC project in West Texas

Another little car show in my hometown. Ended up in front of Chucky, very funny .

I love the look of the jaguar F type headlights from the front.

I finally got a batman T shirt LOL :-) goes with the car .

My new wheels with custom offsets are almost done, hopefully they fit well and I wont have to use the stupid plastic hub inserts as well as the aluminum spacers to clear the front calipers, and the front tires will no longer rub . Fingers crossed, not a cheap investment, hopefully worth it .

finally, a quote from David Mazzei, his build is incredible, and he did it fast !!!

"Can't believe how many people loved the SuperLite body. I swear guys, feels arrogant to say, but the SLC absolutely blows away the Ferraris and lambos. The UFO windshield, body lines, and the low roof line just captivates. To those of you working on your projects, keep marching forward it's worth every second!"

Well as you all know , this project never truly ends. I had to make a couple of upgrades. Never liked the way the amber A pillar covers looked from the inside but mostly form the utside, they stuck out like a sore thumb. I figured black would blend nicely with the dashboard and the windshield frit edging and since I had to remove them to loosen the dashboard and install my upgraded passenger side control screen, it was a good time to re wrap the A pilar covers . Funny thing I never had glu smile at me :-) creepy

My son Miguel was home for a bit and finished programming the auxiliary screen that controls the traction control unit ( I will tackle that subject in a different post )
He also had to clean up the signal from the front wheel proximity sensor into the AIM unit, the 1.2 MXS version is not compatible with a proximity sensor for the speedometer , it did show numbers on the screen , but they fluctuated constantly, totally useless. So he progrmmed the circuit to read the pulses and send a compatible signal to the AIM unit. All I know is that involved tons of lines of code :-) The speedometer now works flawlessly and is even more sensitive and quicker than the GPS signal. Amazing kid.

Since he was setting up the screen he added a few components to the circuit board and my accessory screen located on the passenger side, now has GPS speed, ( so I can double check ) time, temperature, altitude, atmospheric pressure and accelerometer that reads forward and lateral Gs . How cool is that ????

Finally, I was sooo tired of dealing with the rough idle issues coming from the original factory tune on my LS3 525 crate engine. on hot days and stop and go traffic engine wanted to die every time the electric fans or a/c compressor kicked on, but also just idling at a stop light , an absolute nightmare and dangerous on stop and go traffic. I did stall once at a busy intersection , time to make a change.

I tried to make an appointment and perform a dyno tune , but the closest one is 3 hours away. Luckily I found a local guy with 15 years experience tuning LS engines that was able to help me .

The first thing he noticed was that the air intake temps were between 120 and 150 degrees, since my air intake filter sits right between the mufflers.

My solution, a cold air intake box and separators on top of the mufflers so that the air would come in from the hood vent, and the rear clam vents above.

It does not solve the problem completely when the car is not moving, but the air temp drops like a rock, as much as 30 degrees when the car starts moving even at very low speeds, super happy with the result.

I just used a fenestrated aluminum sheath I found at Lowe's, made a very cool and simple design (got to give myself flowers) covered with 10mm aluminum covered foam and finished with gold reflective sheet to match the black and gold theme as well as to help with radiant heat a bit.

He fine tuned everything after the cold air intake was installed and now the car runs perfectly, no more idle issues at all , even today that temp was 105. Super happy !!! I am running out of things to do and upgrade LOL ;-)

I have new shoes. I absolutely love the Splux 3-piece wheels with the deep black barrels. They don't match all the accents perfectly, but the plasti-dipped wheels had to go, and they had the wrong offsets. attended another car show this weekend, so much fun talking to people, crowd always builds around the SLC.

getting close to 6500 miles on the odometer. Changed the oil after 3000 miles, the weather has been crazy hot in West Texas!! But the car temps are fine and the a/c works beautifully. No sweat!!!

My daughter is attending the local university for a few months so I donated her my daily driver, therefore, I am "forced" to drive the SLC to work every morning. The neighbors are complaining about the noise LOL. And the people in my office say they always know when I am coming and going, they say the building shakes. I hope they get used to it, I am not selling or trading the car :-)

Not bad for a daily driver , mine is definitely not a show car garage queen but people still love it . Ran over a porcupine a couple of days ago , luckily no damage other than to the poor little guy.

My son Miguel was a huge help during the entire build. He did all the harnesses for headlights and tail lights, created a special interface to help the AIM display unit's speedometer read an analog wheel signal. designed the custom horns, all the circuit design for tailights ,headlights, backup camera, optimizing the tesla parking brake controller and created a unique LCD display that shows GPS speed, altitude, vertical and lateral G forces.

we spent tons of time in the garage together, over more than 5 years, absolutely priceless.

It makes me happy and proud that he made a video of all the things he has done, and the SLC shows up quite a bit. It is the first image of the video. :-) He loves it as much as I do.

It is a long video but the SLC got more than a minute from 4:35 to 6:05. It makes me very happy that he has fond memories from the project.
