EVC has a very difficult problem to overcome before and if it will ever happen.
With a valve spring and camshaft part of the energy that is used to open the valve is recovered on the closing side of the cam lobe therefore reducing the total energy used to open the valve. With EVC you must apply energy to both open and close the valve. The electrical energy to do this would result in n alternator almost as big as the engine.
