My best man at my wedding did a whole season on a fishing boat in the north sea, not for me I'm afraid, he was on the sister ship to one that disappeared with out a trace on a moderate sea, it was discovered in due course she was dragged under by a sub entangled in her net.

I recall there was also another incident with a trawler dragged under by the RN somewhere of the west coast /Isle of Man.
I cant quite recall all the details now but the previous one - The Gaul - was a deliberate sinking by the Soviet Navy, (probably a low yield/ [proximity type ?] torpedo) and incidentally the Gaul was allegedly an ELINT Trawler with RN staff on board. It was allegedly fishing in the area off the North Cape of Norway on the sea lane / approach to Murmansk. The wreck was only discovered a couple of years back and it was clear some of the deck hatches were open.
It was the subject of a five day Search and Rescue by RAF Nimrods operating out of Andoya in Northern Norway, all in vain
I'm unsure if it was declared a War Grave or not.

Hi David, he pops up on face book from time to time, so next time I see him i'll ask him the name of the boat, I do know he lost a good mate on it but that's all I really no.
cheers John
