Shipping from UK to the States

Is there ANY way of shipping items from the UK to the States that is not down right robbery? I have a package to bring in, not very big, about the size of a suitcase, 40 pounds in weight and DHL wants 300 bucks to bring it over while UPS wants 280 bucks.

It's slightly too big for the post and I'd like to find some other shipping company beside UPS or DHL that can take their time and not charge a fortune. With all that's been going on with the Airlines, I really don't want to saddle someone with carrying it on to a flight and having to deal with the umpteen hastles that a box of car parts will cause.......

thanks
Brian

Where in the UK are the parts? this could make a difference with the collection costs and also where in USA to deliver.

I work for a company that sells Earthmover / diesel parts and we move stuff to USA all the time.

From memory about £100 for up to 1000kg or cubic meter sea freight (about 16 day shiping time)

Give me some more details and I'll ask our shipping department to find some reliable carrier quotes

thanks
Ian

Take a look at the parcel2go.com site - up to 25 kg costs about £ 60 (as I recall) and is sub-contracted to DHL - they are not too efficient at booking the collection but once its out of their hands the system is fine

Ian, tried to pm you, but I can't get through. However, Malc does have all of the details. This Parcel2go.com thing looks good though as I do not want to have to go and collect the item and even with the fuel surcharge, it will only be $ 125.

Ian, when you use over the water freight, do you need a freight forwarder once in port? I have had this happen in the past and the forwarder was quite expensive:-(

Many thanks for the advice guys,I'll be one step closer to a running car

Where in USA is "up the sticks"

Freight can be arranged as you want
I would presume you want door to door which is as it states but there would be import duties / taxes to pay n USA This should be all that is payable in USA with Door to door.

You can then have to port side only - you will then be stung for clearance costs, duties atc.

also do you have the parcel dimensions?

My profile is set to allow PM and E mail and only 3PM's in my box so no reason it did not work!

Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian, many thanks for your efforts to help with this. I am sending a pm with contact details.

Package is 760x510x350mm and just under 18kg. Door to door is desired.

Thanks again

What we have thus far
I think the best is by courier. Package volumes for air at 23 kgs. (This means the weight is increased because of the package dimensions)

Door to door, with Davies Turner. Price to us £85.67 - + VAT. Local import duties may have to be paid in USA .

Paul at PRS has undercut them & given me a price of £84.00 for 2 day service by FedEx. (VAT extra)

Seafreight charges are geared to 1m3 or 1000 kgs minimum. To Boston, nearest port $86.60 (includes surcharges) is minimum charge plus port charges of £38.00. Charges to UK port and port charges & delivery in USA are extra.

Airfreight to Boston £71.31, but this is just to arrival Boston airport. There will be clearance charges to pay at the airport which will make this more expensive than courier.

More info once received
