Something to think about...

Many of us have installed non-standard wiring and/or hidden anti-theft
devices on our cars. When complete, we stand back and fold our arms
and gaze with pride at the car, secure in the knowledge that nobody is
going to take it who doesn't know it intimately.

BAM! You get struck by lightening, or your brain explodes. Now, how
are your loved ones going to deal with the car?

I am working with a grieving family at the moment with just this
situation. The very clever owner of a Pantera died without informing
anybody what he did to the car. The family wants to be able to
start/move (and maybe sell) his Pantera, but it is completely
immobilized due to his undocumented cleverness. They are in North
Carolina, a million miles away from any help, and none of them are
mechanically (much less electrically) savvy anyway.

There's only so much I can do for them. Chances are, it is going to
take a lengthy and expensive electrical exorcism to find the cause.

Lesson to be learned here is, do whatever it is you want to do, BUT
take the time to document the changes fully and leave the documentation
in a place where others who might need to access it will be able to do
so. It's hard enough on families dealing with the stress of a sudden
death, there's no need to add further stress with a nuisance like this.
