Sparking Gun 2003

My time to fit and tack - 16 hours
3 hours to TIG.

The collectors came with the headers and are made by Shoenfeld. Most header manufactures offer slip on collectors. The headers were purchased at Speedway Motors.

Neal, It looks like you welded the assembly together. Can you get them off? The style of collector you used has a hole between the tubes where they enter the collector. If you welded it up , the pipes have to stay together. The original cars came with merge collectors. Burns Stainless and SPD both carry them in steel and stainless. They are very expensive 3-400 each depending on size and material. They are a work of art and very difficult to make. This allows each pipe to be attached individually.Sorry I caught this so late. I hope they work for you.
After closer inspection I see how they made the collector. But, can you get them off the engine?

Remember those chain link style puzzles that you twist and turn to assemble and take apart?

Actually, the two sections can be assembled off the engine with a little bit of contortion and then the assembly may be fit to the engine by dropping them to engine mount level, sliding them towards the engine and then wedging them upwards. Just remember to remove the spark plugs!

This means it is unlikely they will come off without removing the engine.

Plenty of lessons learned should I choose to pursue this again! Slip on collectors and a closer look at how the two sections fit together. None the less, I'm pleased with the results.

Those merge collectors are the "mutt's nuts!"
