SPF vent rearview camera

Anyone already have one? Thoughts?

Pricey, but seems like a nice solution.

I have a Vantop H610 Mirror Camera in my car. I put the rear camera in a Nissan Satellite Radio Antenna Mount. This thing works great! And with the rear camera location on the spider, I have zero blind spots. Low profile and not as boxey looking as the SPF offering.

Well Charles, that is YOUR opinion. If it’s a matter of having a small bump on the spyder vs not knowing what’s coming up behind you or passing you, I don’t see it as a bad option. But that is MY opinion. Notice I expressed MY opinion with a much lighter tone. That is why this forum is great. We don’t attack other people for their choices. Please think about that when you post in the future.
Thank You

I am researching options as well for my build. As I most likely will not even have a choice of keeping my cockpit rear window. (Supercharger snout issues) I am considering the option of mounting the camera inside the clam looking through the glass. Everything depends on just how the view perspective will come out in the end. What ever option gives me the desired view is what I will be going with.

I won't buy one until it I am completely certain I am not able to have the window.

A good option as well is the Chevrolet/GMC full time camera rear view mirror systems.

Rod, I think that’s by far the best solution I have seen to date. That will probably make the SPF GT40 Owners Manual if that’s ok with you. Please contact me and share some info and photos if you have any.

Douglas, I completely agree. I’m not going to buy anything until I’m ready. Technology is changing. Seems like every time I buy the latest and greatest, it is outdated by the time it is shipped to me. It’s happened a couple of times already.

Another option that I installed about four years ago is a product called 4ucam. A rear view camera that I attached to the top of my license plate. it connects to an iPhone or Android phone via an app. I place my iPhone on the dash and can see anything behind me. In addition to showing the cars behind you as you're driving, it also shows guide lines for backing into a parking space which is otherwise very difficult for a GT40. And this system doesn't require you to change out the mirror supplied by SPF. The App you use is called SightWiFi. Total cost for the camera is about $100. The link below the photo below will take you to the 4ucam website.

Hi Rod, I am interested in this rear view roof mount, do you have any close up photos of how you mounted the camera inside the housing? What camera did you use for the roof housing? When I googled the "Nissan Satellite Radio Antenna Mount" I found housings that were close in shape to the one on top of the spider but not identical. If I'm not asking too much could you post a link for the housing in your photo and the camera inside? Thanks brother! Dave

Unfortunately, this is about the only thing in my build that I didn't take a bunch of pictures of while doing this. It was really easy though. I found the Satellite Antenna Mount (2008 Infinity G37 # 228208-CF40) on eBay. The Rear Camera is the one that came with the Vantop H610. I removed the Camera's attaching bracket and gutted the Antenna Mount down to just the Cover. I then marked & drilled a hole in the back for the Camera and used a Dremel on both the inside of the Cover & the Camera to make a good fit. I then made a mounting Bezel out of a scrap piece of fiberglass panel and epoxied everything together. Some matching paint & 3M double-sided tape acting as both a gasket and adhesive completed the project.

Excellent description, thank you! That's what I needed (other than my 40, of course! ) I also think that location is the best view as well! Dave.

Brian, I really like the look of that one! The only possible drawback that I see is the degree of side to side range looks a bit narrow with the camera mounted in that alcove? Not sure if it would be enough to eliminate the blind spots. Play with it some and keep us informed.

I built a Mustang Mach 1 a few years ago and it has the rear window louvers. I installed the Wolfbox rear view mirror with the camera on the license plate. It honestly works perfectly and you completely forget your looking at a screen image. It also has front view camera, so card to record, gps, etc. Very nice unit. The only problem/hiccup is running the wire from the mirror around the windshield to where ever you have the box mounted.

I bought this from Amazon to experiment with. Really cheap and ABS plastic. I can cut it, bend it or whatever I choose, including throwing it away. If it’s something that I like after modifying it, I can also buy it in Real carbon Fiber if I want some bling

Hi Brian, i like the look of this housing as well, will follow. I also like the look of Rod's camera housing on the roof of his spider. Top of the spider seems to be the perfect location for the best wide angle rearward view. One question, what make is your GT? As you know, the SPF 40's have the louvered roof vent that seems to be in the same location as a roof mount camera housing would go. To my eye, I'm not a fan of the shape of the SPF roof mount housing, and I also don't want to cover the roof vent if possible. I guess the SPF choice comes down to a roof mounted camera or the roof vent, but not both. I won't have my 40 until early spring, 20025, so for now I just look at pictures and talk with the great owners on this site. Dave
