Steering column

Hi guys , can you tell me what steering column and racks you are all fitting. I seem to have ford sierra in my mind. Any help would be appreciated.

It would help if you could say which chassis you have and your location. The choice of rack will depend on the front suspension geometry in order to avoid bump steer. The position of the steering rack ball joints relative to the wishbone inner joints is very important. Some juggling of rack position can help but it is a good idea to get as close as possible. The length of the rack is important. As an example the rack on GTDs is usually raised by about half an inch to reduce bad bump steer..

This thread may help in understanding the issue.
The choice of rack and positioning is the bit to get right. The steering column can be anything that will fit with the correct fittings to link to the chosen rack. The electric steering column from a Vauxhall Corsa is a popular choice in the UK.

Sorry l should have said.. I'm in the uk and have a gtforte chassis. I plan to use a mx5 depowered rack ,but its the column that's really the problem as they have to be calapsable. The mx5 column is to long and the calapsable part is at the bottom . So if tou shorten the bottem you remove the calapsabilty , so l'm looking for a shorter calapsable one that'll pass the IVA. I don't want to get anything from Darren at gtforte , so if anyone can tell me what column he uses it would be a great help.

Most people use an escort/cortina rack on GTForte chassis The standard length is not exactly right but you can get a custom one from Kelly Bray. They did one for one of our NW members for his GTForte chassis. They should be able to point you in the right direction for a Ford column that will mate to the rack and has a collapsible section.
Where are you in the UK?

Yeah your right, ive figured out a way of shortening the upper column but still keeping it calapsable, and hopefully the bottem will calapse enough to get it to fit.
