The hard work pays off !

After countless hours of priming, sanding,
and blocking, my GT40 is painted.
I am really impressed with the color too.
It was well worth the time spent to make
sure it looks the way it does.
I can't believe that tomorrow I have to sand
on it again and then polish it. I will get
some pictures up asap.
I really have to thank John Schnieder for
all his help with the sanding and alot of
other stuff. Also my friend Ivan for allowing
me to use his spray booth and equipment.
But mostly for his expertize with all these new materials.
My choice of paint was Spies-Hekker and
the color is Titanium Metalico. That is a
Lamorghini 1994 color. I don't have the
Spies paint code but I have the PPG No#.
It is 35989. They cross referenced it
for me when I bought the paint.
You can expect to pay almost double for this
paint but now I see why.

Congrats Hersh!!! can't wait to see pictures. Is Spies-Hecker an acrylic paint or polyester paint?
Titanium met. is a terrific color on a GT40, there is a photo in one of the books of a Safir car in that color and it looks really good.
Just curious- did you use HVLP or a regular gun?

Thanks guys,
Jim, Spies Hekker is a urathane base. It's
about the best for the harsh AZ sun. I
srayed it with a SATA HVLP with a 1.3MM tip.
My strips are black and I copied the style
from the sixties 1045 Girling Car which
was red with white stipes. I thought that
was the best layed out stipes I've ever seen
on a GT.

Both Jay and I are very happy for you. You kept charging and now are way ahead of us. Jay did have a couple other projects which kept him distracted. We won't have the GT40 at DVSFII. Looking forward to seeing your car. Maybe you could give me a ride??

Sorry to hear that the GT won't be at the Fling. I was hoping that there would be at
least five GT's there. I'm still
not out of the woods yet. Provided that no
unforseen problems occur it looks like I
just might make it under the wire. I have
been putting in 12 hour days just to
get it this far in the last two weeks.
I wouldn't be this close if it weren't for
the the fact that this kit is so good and
the factory support that I get.

buying any more ZR1's while you're there.

You should be very proud of your attainment. The kit can be good but the attention to detail is where it all STOPS.

I am glad the pain has been worth it and remember to push out that chest of yours when you say "I built it".

Lets see some photographs of your pride and joy. Well done John and Gordon for your help and encouragement.
