The Pot Party!

Bob,

The trouble is you believe in democracy, freedom, peaceful protest etc as long as the people taking part echo your views, and beliefs.

You remind me of someone.

Dirty Dancing - Baby talk with his father. - YouTube

I'm not stopping anyone from voicing their opinion, I encourage it. Why do you think I started this and other political subjects? When both sides are revealed, it gives the world insight into who is for what. My choice of the political cartoon, I believe, is spot on in a humorous presentation. The sooner both sides are clearly heard, without going through the filter of biased media, the easier it is for those on the fence to see who they relate more to.

Actually that actor looks and acts a lot like my father in law!

Please don't take all this personally, Nick.

Once again, no modern era Republican has had his budget passed by congress.

Obama is all for small government? The "reduction of governmnet" by Clinton was mainly the reduction of the military.

Bobbie,

I know that you are aware that Reagan and Bush both pushed through tax cuts and no matter what Congress does, they then signed the bills, didn't they?

Compromise, Jim, compromise, something Republicans always need to do, something Dems rarely need to do.

A shinning exemption, though, was Clinton seeing the political realities and running to the right for a second term!

Yea Bobbie,

It just a coincidence that govenment and the debt grow under consevatives and govenment and debt go down under Democrates, just a big coincidence.

Since 1929, Republicans and Democrats have each controlled the presidency for nearly 40 years. So which party has been better for American pocketbooks and capitalism as a whole? Well, here’s an experiment: imagine that during these years you had to invest exclusively under either Democratic or Republican administrations. How would you have fared?

As of Friday, a $10,000 investment in the S.& P. stock market index* would have grown to $11,733 if invested under Republican presidents only, although that would be $51,211 if we exclude Herbert Hoover’s presidency during the Great Depression. Invested under Democratic presidents only, $10,000 would have grown to $300,671 at a compound rate of 8.9 percent over nearly 40 years.

THIS PRESIDENT and HIS PARTY have single handedly CRUSHED the American spirit.

Quote Damian , post # 61

This thread is moving so fast forward , that I might sound like an history researcher going back to post # 61.

Would that comment be a fair assumption ? If it is then I can tell my mates down here in Kiwi godzone that in general the American peoples morale / spirit is very low. Well crushed means --Non existant.

Zollis,

I know that much of the country is suffering through tight times and really need help, hopefully the grinch who stole their jobs will wake up and pass the Presidents job act to help put folks back to work.

You can tell your Kiwi friends that most of the "crushed spirit" is coming from our conservatve friends. They see that the American people have seen what their plan for the future will bring and they won't stand for it. The polls bare this out.

I can tell you that here in the heart of liberal America (Nancy Pelosi land), our spirit is just fine.

There is no doubt that the consevatve red states are suffering, high rates of poverty and high rates of divorce. Selfish conservatism is obviously not working for those folks. Perhaps electing some caring liberals would help those folks, we can only hope.

What is good for the goose???
This is how the protest is going in Tucson. When I or anyone else plans an event at the cities parks we are made to get permit, post bonds, vacate the park by 10:30 at night and abide by the laws. These people have decided to do none of the above. The city council (democrat) have told the police not to enforce the curfew and permit needs and basically "stand down". So much for law and order in Tucson. But when the Tea Party or anyone else wants to meet they will have jump through the usual hoops. I guess it will be alright to break other laws in Tucson from now on.

TO: The Honorable Mayor FROM: Fred H. Gray, Jr., Director and Council Members Parks and Recreation

Roberto Villaseñor

Chief of Police

SUBJECT: Occupy Tucson General Assembly

On October 12 at 3:30 PM City staff met with individuals that are members of the Occupy Tucson General Assembly. Director Fred Gray from Parks and Recreation, Mr. Baird Greene from the City Prosecutors Office, Asst. Chief Brett Klein of the Tucson Police Department, and other City staff members met with a delegation of seven members of the group who will be holding the rally. The purpose of the meeting was to establish points of contact with organizers, share information regarding the planned events and to provide information to the group regarding the standing rules and regulations for usage of the parks.

Information and Plans Communicated to City staff by the Occupy Tucson Representatives

The assembled members of the Occupy Tucson Group related their immediate intentions to kick off their event. Veinte De Agosto Park was identified as the initial location for this event but due to conflicts with this weekend’s Tucson Meet Yourself, the group has now identified Armory Park as the desired location. They will have a General Assembly meeting on Saturday, October 15th at 9:00 AM at Armory Park. Their estimate for attendance was approximately 1,000; however that is a very rough estimate and what they feel the maximum number would be. They also informed us that this will be the beginning of the "occupation" of the park. They intend to camp overnight and will continue their stay there for an indefinite period of time, until certain political changes are made on the national front.

The group asserts that they have no formal organizational structure. Any possible events or actions are discussed at General Assembly meetings and the majority prevails. They have established rules for conduct and have conveyed that they are interested in a peaceful event. The event organizers indicated that they do not plan to request a reservation or permit for the use of the park, nor pay any fees for such use.

Park Rules and Policies and Planned Uses

The Parks and Recreation Department’s current policy for such use during park hours requires a facility reservation, payment of appropriate reservation fees ($155 for Armory or $100 for a certified non-profit; a maintenance deposit ($500); and a $1 million Certificate of Liability Insurance naming the City of Tucson as Additional Insured. There are other requirements regarding vendor permits, health department permits and coordination/facilitation with other City/County departments depending upon the size and impact of the use/event. (See attached Park Reservation Information sheet providing the specific details and requirements for this type of use.)

Armory Park hours of use as posted are 7:00 am to 10:30 p.m. Overnight occupancy of park facilities is not allowed without a permit, and even with a permit, is limited.

In addition to the daily use of the Armory Senior Center, there are other events planned for Armory Park in the coming months that would be impacted by the occupation of the park. Those events include Procession of the Little Angels (as part of All Souls) on November 5th and El Tour de Tucson on November 19th.

Traffic and Safety

Concerns regarding traffic and crowd issues were expressed by the Police Department, as well as a need to establish lines of communication relating to future Occupy Tucson events. It was made clear to the group that the Police Department was there to provide for everyone's safety.

Considerations

The lack of intent to comply with any of the guidelines set forth by the City for use of the park is problematic, especially in light of past events (including political and social cause events) that have complied with these regulations and paid the appropriate fees. Examples of such events and organizers include the May 1 Coalition (Arizona Border Rights Federation), Solidarity Rally (Pima Area Labor Federation), Tucson Tea Party Rally, No Rent Tax Rally (Arizona Multi-housing Association), Americans Against Immigration Amnesty Rally, Anti-Death Penalty Protest

If we were to allow this event to completely disregard all guidelines that we have mandated other organizations to follow, then we undermine those guidelines for all future events and disrespect the lawful compliance of previous organizations that played by the rules. We do not want to set that type of precedent or disrespect the efforts of other organizations that did comply.

On the other had, any enforcement decisions will be made considering the entirety of the circumstances involved, to include the right of free speech and peaceful assembly within guidelines set forth by Federal, State and local laws. Each situation is unique, and the Police Department will respond based upon prevailing circumstances. The objective will be to not force confrontation, but to provide for the safety and well-being of all.

Conclusions and Next Steps

The group will be clearly informed that if they do not comply with established City guidelines, then they are in violation of the law and subject to possible enforcement action.

Overall, our meeting with the Occupy Tucson representatives was productive in that some preliminary lines of communication have been established and the concerns of both City Staff and the participants in the event have been discussed. The affected departments are in the process of planning our coordinated response to any public safety demands that might be generated as a result of this event.

Like anyplace else in the country money is tight in Tucson. The citizens of our city will have to absord the cost for police overtime, added liability (no insurance or bond) and cleanup. The residents living around the park will have to put up with traffic, possible rise in crime, and noise day and night.

Yeah, Zollis, its all about Jim, all the time!

His little California bubble doesn't represent the 12% unemployment rate here, second highest in the country. He's deluded by his little liberal toy of the month, Silicon Valley.

He needs to realize that the former Cali toy was the movie industry. As time went by, they were taxed out of the state and do a whole lot of filming out of California.
