Titling Superformance GT40 in Montana

Hello all,
Has anyone recently (2024-2025) titled their Superformance GT40 (from the original MSO) in Montana?

Were you able to title it as a 1966 Ford GT40?

Don’t believe everything you read. I went the Montana route for my FFR coupe so that I could have it as a 1965. Florida wouldn’t do it. Caught me off guard when just two years prior Florida registered my SLC without even laying eyes on it. As far as I’m aware if you use one of the Montana companies they will register it as whatever you want.

Eventually I’ll sell the car from my Montana LLC to either my wife or myself here in Florida and transfer the tags.

Some states are not accepting a Montana title for transfer to the "real" state without taxes and in some cases, investigation. Be aware.

I titled my car, SPF 2442, as a 1969 GT 40 two years ago, using the original MSO. I had a very easy time doing it, but I do live in Montana, so I have a Montana driver’s license. They never asked to see my license though. Never had to present the car, just gave them the MSO.

Some may have a different experience, as I’ve seen more than a few GT40’s on BaT titled as “Ford” GT40’s in Montana, but it seems that the Montana DMV will go by what’s on the MSO. So if your MSO says Superformance, so will your title.

I recently titled our SPF GT40 (P2505) in Michigan and was not able to title it as what I wanted. Like what my good friend Lee Patterson (GTLee) and James above say, the MSO says SPF, then that's how it registers. ON THE PLUS SIDE, I was able to get the plate I wanted!

imagine such a change would/could be done to international law for preventing companies from using tax havens and loop holes... how much more money there would end up in most state budgets ...
