Transmission Paint

Hi Pat , I would think 300 degrees would be more than enough. If its not I would think your box is about to lock up! Stuff looks nice to me too. Hope your build is coming along well. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Chris,

Hi temp, wrinkle paint actually dissipates heat better than

smooth paint or a bare surface, as it creates a larger

surface area. Wrinkle paint has been commonplace on high

performance motorcycle engines(all aluminum) since the

early '70s. It should work just as well on a gearbox, if

heat is THAT much of an issue.

Pat,

I painted my gearbox with a silver, high temp paint(smooth)

3 years ago, and haven't noticed any change in temperature

since. The silver color looks like anodized aluminum, and

hasn't changed a bit due to heat cycles. $5 from Carquest.

I remember asking a radiator repairman what paint they used in finishing their radiator repairs. He replied that only lacquer paints could be used. Enamel paints would insulate and reduce cooling. Just an interesting fact from years ago. May not apply to modern day paint.

Thanks guys. I'm not worried about insulating the surface as I don't see that happening with these types of materials. I just wanted to see if there was any experience out there with this type of paint.
