Used riveter wanted

Hey there David, just my 2 cents but my cheap-o HF pneumatic (about $50) has served me well for 2 Cobra replicas and other small projects. I do expect that it will be fine for my 40 project too and came with multiple sized rivet adapters.

I was just looking at Milwaukee 12v one at Home Depo for for $249 no charger but with battery that supposedly pull 3/16 stainless pops

Not sure if you were talking pop rivets. I may be selling the pneumatic one I have if it works but might be a week or before I get to it.

Assuming you're talking about blind rivets... the type of riveter you'll need depends on the type of rivets that you will be pulling. Are these cheapo hardware store type "pop" rivets or something else? Huck and Cherry both make a very high-quality rivet that retains its stem and is a bit expensive but reliable- the CherryMax and Magna-Lok. AVEX rivets are a good compromise- "semi-structural", a wide grip range, install with ordinary pop rivet tools, ans are inexpensive. Then there are the aircraft blind rivets that require a very complicated and expensive installation tool. On top of all this, there are different rivet body and stem materials. Avoid cheap steel stems & bodies- they rust!

Think about the purpose of the rivets you will be using. Are they just to hold a panel on to keep out dust & dirt or they to add structural strength & stiffness to your chassis? Here is what I have in my shop. I also have a huge long-handled manual tool that's not shown.

Neil, in reading your past info on attaching the alloy sheets I thought about going the Huck or Cherry Max rivet way. I just looked at the AVEX you recommended and that is a nice price for the quantity and does not require a $400 gun to install. I can just get a pneumatic and off I go. Just preparing for the holidays. I plan to paint the chassis in 2 weeks and start paneling

A CherryMax rivet can be installed with a conventional tool but it costs about $1 a piece. An Avex is a very good compromise. A good epoxy primer is worthwhile too.

I have the Pop prg510 pneumatic and it's really nice. The down side is having to fire up the compressor for a few pops. Lots of the on ebay as well in the 200 mark. I got off my a$$ and ordered the Milwaukee 12v and should have it tomorrow if what they say is true about quick delivery :) will report how it works if anyone interested. One thing the Milwaukee had was an option for a long snout to get into tight places

Dome, or Countersunk head, any recommendation?
You'll get tired of drilling countersunk holes in a real hurry. Plus, you should use a countersink stop to get the depth right. Use dome head rivets unless necessary to use countersunk. You'll also need a threaded countersink- 82 degree or 90 degree?

Got the Milwaukee gun going today. Pulled some aluminum and stainless 3/16" rivets without any issue. On the one that was really too long I had to pull 2x to make it pop. Otherwise really no problem pulling the stainless. It's slower then the pop pneumatic one but feels more powerful.

Also got the 6" snout which I could see being useful in a hard to reach spot or where the too would not fit.

Pics below of it and the pop pneumatic.
