What are the red (or yellow) dots on the Mark IV's for?

Anyone know what the yellow or red 4" diameter dots on the Mark IV's are for? Looks like a line-up mark for tire changers, but they are on the roof sometimes too.

If you get a chance to email me the answer I'd appreciate it, I'm not on this site much til the spring when I get my RCR Mark IV kit from Fran.

MIKE CHRISTIAN, yes, (how did you know) I was RescueDiverSF about 10 years ago with my Porsche 550 Spyder replica... recently I have been super active in Factory Five Forum for my Shelby Daytona Coupe replica as JackLawrenceXXX

Jack Lawrence Daytona - Home has some info on my car as well as searching YouTube for 'Jack Lawrence Daytona'.

Yet again... another car made of glass without air bags... guess I have a need to taunt death!

Now here's a bit of trivia. Why are the fire dots on J6's roof orange?<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Did someone try to remove the red dots with pain thinner...
changing the shade to orange?

You got it. They painted red dots by mistake on the Yellow Alum. roof and wiped them off with gasoline which turned them orange. The correct red dots are on the fiberglass fenders.

FRAN, let me guess.... Magnesium? I know first hand not to put water on a Magnesium fire... learnt that the hard way when machining Mag on my Dad's lathe....

P.S> getting closer to ordering a GT40 MkIV from you... be ready for the customer calling every day with 'Is it done yet????"

mag. was often painted gold back in the day to signify its not ali.

Wheels on 1970-80's race bikes and engine covers were gold...and mag.

Hey Rescue !

Welcome to Gt40s.com. There are a few of us that have 550 spyder replicas as well as gt40s. Myself (Beck 113) and Spydermike who also has a Beck are gt40 converts...

Good to see you back. Lots of great info and help here.

Eric, thanks, I guess even 1,200 pound car nuts get the urge for something more powerful sometimes! Awesome 'Historically Significant' cars will always be cool... so if I had a hopped-up 2.6 liter 914 motor in my 550... I guess I have no choice than to have a 500 plus cubic inch FE motor in my Mark IV, right....

Hey Jack, how's it going? I take it you still have your coupe, looking for more? I still have my Daytona and drive it often. Started my GT a little more than a year ago, it will be on the road this coming spring. I haven't been on the FFR forum for a while, I'll have to visit. Good luck with your future build. Check out what I'm doing @ Tornado in Vermont. Remember, "We are the people our parents warned us about" Jimmy Buffett.
