Wheel Adapters

Just about finished the two rear wheel adapters...need to put the last touches on them and set up the locking mechanism. Material is billet 7075 alum. and I managed to get themdown to less than .001 runout..lots of hours on the lathe. Since I don't have the special equipment a friend of mine fabbed the nuts on a CNC turning center and did a great job. Can't wait to get them finished and mounted.

I actually made the nuts smaller than the original ones for the wheels..they are a 2 1/2" hex. I am going to put the locking arrangement on them this week if I have time. I was planning to use the Porsche style lock where the nut has a groove approx. halfway down the thread and there are holes in the adapter which line up with the groove when the wheel is tight...a small clip goes inside the adapter and expands into the holes locking the nut to the adapter. I will post more photos when I have this done, and when I mount the setup on my chassis. Right now I am waiting for tires as I have a temporary set on the rear and don't want to go thru the changeover until I get everything in hand. Jim, you were right about the "swarf" as you call it..went right to the recycling bin with the whole pile. That material is tough on tooling, even carbides. Here is a photo of the Type wheels I will be using in the chassis..this is a front 15X10, the rears are 15X 14.

Photo of one of the wheels with tire removed. Yes they need cleaning up! Backspacing and sizes are almost exactly that of original BRM wheels. The pin centers have a metric bolt center with an inch size pin diameter..but we made the fit. Hoping to get tires soon and make the changeover so I can take some more photos.
