When was the last time you replaced plug wires and distributor cap.

As my CAV celebrated her 10th birthday, I decided to replace the distributor cap/rotor and plug wires. Big surprise! The car not only idled smoother, the difference in acceleration was actually noticeable. The cap and rotor contacts were scorched a bit but nothing that looked awful. So if it's been a while, you may want to consider a similiar change.

every year on the rotor and cap. i have an MSD 6al with a MSD distributor. Problem is the center contact appears to be made of carbon and wears down very quickly. 2 years on a cap is not good. No problem since i've been changing every year
Talked to MSD they say never have heard of such of thing. Of course not.

Good one Pat.

My old 2002 Suburban was running poorly a while back and I thought "hhhmm, when was the last time I replaced the spark plugs and wires?" Come to think of it I've never replaced either. Bought the car with not a lot of miles and she had 180,000 miles at that point. Wow, 150,000 miles or so on the same spark plugs and wires. Seriously?

Needless to say, she ran a lot better with new plugs/wires.
