XGT-3 Mecum Auctions Kissimmee

Compare the auction photos to some I took at Carnival of Cars at old Packard proving grounds outside Detroit 1977.
At the time Don Eichstaedt, Ford & Kar Kraft engineer (who worked on Mk-IV, Boss 429 & Boss 302 projects) owned XGT-3.
Don related at that time he found the car was still in Ford's possession and purchased the car & trailer for a ridiculous cheap price!
Don had either been told or had mistaken the car due to it's livery to be P1047, the Gurney Le Mans entry, and the placard along side states the car is P1047, it is not!

Don drove the car around the 2 mile banked track at a relatively conservative pace. I do recall on start up, the 7 liter just didn't like idling under 2,000 rpm's.

I drove my car at the time, SFM6S283 on the track, could maintain position on the banking @ 90 mph!

Also in attendance was Larry Anderson with CSX2550, who uncorked the drag headers and was running the 289 at full song around the track, well in excess of the century mark speed. A great experience!

In the 2nd photo is a much younger version of myself in the red windbreaker!
5th photo, Don Eichstaedt in red jacket, myself holding the sign, Larry Anderson in jean jacket stands behind CSX2550.
You can see the banking is significant!

regards

Drove the Packard track at SAAC in 1983. It is a "parabolic" banking and you can almost take your hands off the wheel and the car will track in a lane.....almost! Had my 83 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe wound out at about 125-130. My wife did one lap as a passenger and declared "nope, nope, nope!"
