4.6 or 5.4 in an RF kit

Yep, it is common among Lightnings and some Whipples on the 5.0Ls, which is why I mentioned it. As many that have been produced the motors are becoming very common and certainly easily obtained these days, but, they are still tall and wide. Think 460 size and one starts to say, well, hell....I should just put a 385 series in....

Guys, i hear what you're saying about the supercharger, but i really like the "look" of an 8-stack on a GT40.
Here's a picture of my car taken at the factory last week. The spaghetti factory emissions exhaust is a nice piece of work. 6 cats, and two mufflers in there!

Tim,
Even with all those pipes and cats, that thing is still impressive to look at. I saw your GT when I was there in March and I wanted a copy of it on my next GT. I like the 4.6. I'm sure there will be someone down the road that will design an 8 barrel manifold for it soon. Robert might even think about it.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

VeryCool Parts already makes a set.

Kinsler makes an 8 stack manifold for the Modular as well.

This is the DC&O throttle body. I have seen it in person. The maker is just a few minutes from my home, so i have been visiting to see the progress. Robert contacted them last year about my car, and got the project started.
This is exactly what will go onto my car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Tim, the car looks fantastic (and finished - how come you're not driving it ?) !!

Dave & Owen at DC&O know their stuff when it comes to manifolds & TB's - I could not be happier with their setup on my 302.

BTW, I swapped my '89 Vette for the GT40 bits & pieces they had lying around in the factory - they wanted the Vette as a test bed for the GM version of their induction setup !

Interestingly, a mate of mine is a consultant engineer who specialises in induction & emissions - I got him to do the design/specs for my engine, the goal being to pass ADR37-01. He checked out all the systems around & came up with the DC&O setup as being the best. The only change made was to turn the TB's 180deg so that the fuel rails & injectors are on the inside of the TB's, similar to TWM (his theory was to get better mix & burn by jetting straight into the head ports). Something must have gone right as it got thru the emissions test ! This mod was a real challenge on a 302, but by the look of things, the 4.6 has much more space between the TB's, so may be worth thinking about.

See you on the road soon !!

Kind Regards,

Peter D.

Peter,
Fantastic - yes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Finished - no. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I'm not driving it because it is 900km away. But Robert Logan rang me on monday to say he was looking outside to see my car roaring up & down the street! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif The emissions tuning is apparently going well, and they are off to Toyotas test cell next week to see where it's at.
Getting closer..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looking really good Tim.

I've seen a DRB GT40 completed with 4.6lt and it turned out quite nice. Yeah, you need those throttle bodies. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've seen the effort DRB put into passing their GT40's up here and it's a massive undertaking. Although maybe not as massive as yours.

Even though our emissions are not quite as strict yet(5 year rule), the biggest problem seems to be passing noise tests. I witnessed the effort in getting a 302w passed, exhaust setup looked equally as impressive as yours, then add a heap of sound proofing, forget throttle bodies and aluminium rocker covers...they let too much valve train noise through to pass noise tests. So they fit stock inlet manifold and some nice and heavy steel rocker covers to get the cars passed.

I'm not aware of what undertakings DRB have taken for NSW compliance, but knowing the type of person Peter Ransome is, he would have it sorted.

I was down at RF dropping my car off for safe keeping whilst I'm on holidays and had a close look at your wonderful beast. The exhaust is a work of art and I must say it is the meanest looking engine bay I've seen in a 40. I don't think you'll have any noise emission troubles as Robert described it to me; your Maloo is probably much louder. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I'm itchy for you, I can imagine how you would be feeling..... Hang in there mate, not long to go.

Bill

Thanks for the re-assuring thoughts guys.
Bill, at first the sight of the "big" 4.6 didn't excite me all that much. But as the project has moved along, and i have become more used to it, and seen the possibilities for making it look the part, and "go" the part, i have come to think that this quad cam engine really is at home in the back of a GT40.
Yes, i can hardly wait to get it. It has taken a while, but i know what Robert and his team have put into this car, and the wait WILL be well worth it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

More power and a hell of a lot more torque means this thing will go like stink! When you eventually put the "real" exhaust on, it will be loud as well as super fast.
Sitting there on the RF factory floor, I can assure you it looked mean enough. What is the paint job / colour scheme you are aiming for? (I know you may have mentioned it in the past - sorry)

Bill.

Honda "Milano Red" with sliver stripes. Stripe layout will be similar to Hershal's car, ie two wide stripes and two narrow stripes outside. Black BRM's.

I just hope it's here for you to see Brett! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Still a bit to do.
