Allan's RCR40 Build

Moved the engine up so that the back of the starter housing was almost even with the the front of the horseshoe frame.
Also installed the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and release fork. Always loads of fun getting the release fork and rod in there.

So I am still making progress and having fun with the build. Been working on the fuel pick ups and fuel level senders. I decided to go with an electric tank chooser like in an airplane and one fuel pump. So that's all set up with the pressure regulator and filter.
Got the alternator and ac compressor all set up and the MSD system in also. Ran the cooling tubes down the center spline after ceramic coating them and managed to get the ac lines and a heater line down the spline also.

Starting on the body

Spent the week prepping for putting on the body by running all the wiring, putting in the wiper assembly, the ac lines and the cable shifter.

I rolled 'er out of the garage and did the initial dial in for the spider, rockers, front and rear body. Still have a lot of fine tuning to do on it but I'm real happy on how close it it already.

Doors and flares

After spending quite some time working on the doors I moved on to the +2 flares. Put them on the existing body, traced the outline and figured where the overlap would stop and marked that line.
Then the fun part, convincing myself to cut the body. I did cut it away, placed the flare on drilling and holding it on with clecos. Once it was lined up I then fiberglassed it on.
Since then I've been working on blending it in with all the curves, vents and lines in the body.

allan

looks good to me; BTW nice place to live. Are you doing any hunting (bowhunting) ? Looks like a good spot for whitetails to me.

Looks really good Allan!

Are you still running the 10" wide wheels on the rear?

What size tires?

- I must have missed that earlier...

I have the body back off after getting the seams the way I'd like them. The flairs added a lot of work/time but I really like the look and being able to put on the wider tires.

With the body off I got to work finishing up all the engine components, exhaust, cooling system, ac/heat, pedals, throttle cable, wiring, trans. cooler/pump and oil cooler.

Had my first start over the weekend! Ran it for 15 minutes at 2000 rpm to start the engine break process. Running rich and loud at this point but very well. It held oil pressure and temp stayed under 200 without the fans on.

I have had the privilege of seeing the work done on this car, first hand, and it is excellent. The pictures don't do it justice. Allan's attention to detail is incredible. Also,he started up the engine while I was there and it sounds mean.Throttle response is literally instantaneous. He has substituted some mini-cats in place of the megaphone mufflers and they keep the gas vapor factor very low.It was not uncomfortable (from fumes) to be in the garage after the run. Also, they keep the exhaust frequency low so the sound is not an objectionable high pitch, but a low growl. I,for one, can't wait to see this car on the road. (btw, for Eglitom -while we talked in the driveway, a whitetail ran across the yard nearby, but no hunting in this area.) A.J.

I would be interessted in the concept of your overflow / expansion tanks. How does it work ?

And what kind of starter are you using ?

THanks
