If anyone is interested in locomotives, you might take a ride on the Cass Scenic Railroad located in the old lumber mill town of Cass, West Virginia. They run Shay engines (and maybe a Climax) on a line up to the top of Cheat Mountain. It is a fun ride in the summer. Shay engines are unique in that the steam pistons drive a long crankshaft that is geared to all axles so every wheel on a Shay is a driving wheel. These were used for hauling heavy loads of logs up an down mountain grades.
