I never cease to be amazed!

Food for thought, if we think about it at all.....

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT..............
Cheap Tomatoes

THIS HAS GOT TO BE PASSED ALONG TO AS MANY AS POSSIBLE OR WE WILL ALL GO DOWN THE DRAIN BECAUSE A FEW DON'T CARE

This English teacher has phrased it the best I've seen yet.

From a California school teacher - - -

"As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you should be aware of:

I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socioeconomic
and income levels

Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens , Huntington Park , etc., where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools.

Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I'm not talking a glass of milk and roll -- but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten.

I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight.. About 75% or more DO have
cell phones. The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage mothers(some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids.

I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing
funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; my budget was already substantial. I ended up buying new computers for the computer learning center, half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America ..

I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students, here in the country less than 3 months, who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them "Putas"
(whores) and throwing things, that the teachers were in tears.

Free medical, free education, free food, day care
etc., etc, etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements?

To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs.

Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases etc., etc, etc. For me, I'll pay more for tomatoes.

Americans, We need to wake up.

It does, however, have everything to do with culture: It involves an American third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate, and an
American culturethat has become so weakand worried about"politicalcorrectness" that we don't have the will to do anything about it.

If this makes your
blood boil, as it did mine, forward this to everyone you know.

CHEAP LABOR? Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?

Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage.

Consumers don't want expensive produce.

Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs.

But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap labor" is a
myth, a farce, and a lie. There is no such thing as "cheaplabor."

Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for
$5.00 or 6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents,
he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.

He qualifies for
Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.

He qualifies for
food stamps.

He qualifies for
free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.

His
children get free breakfasts andlunchesat school.

He
requires bilingual teachers and books.

He
qualifies for relief from high energy bills.

If they are, or become, aged, blind or
disabled, they qualify for SSI. If qualified for SSI they can qualify forMedicare. All of this is at (our) taxpayer's expense.

He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.

Taxpayers provide
Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.

He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in
benefits.

Working Americans
are lucky to have $5.00 or $6..00/hour left after paying their bills and his.

Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT!

THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS WE SHOULD BE ADDRESSING TO THE CONGRESSIONAL MEMBERS OF EITHER PARTY. 'AND WHEN THEY LIE TO US AND DON'T DO AS THEY SAY, WE SHOULD REPLACE THEM AT ONCE!'

THIS HAS GOT TO BE PASSED ALONG TO AS MANY AS POSSIBLE OR WE WILL ALL GO DOWN THE DRAIN BECAUSE A FEW DON'T CARE.

I checked this on Snopes and it came back undetermined, they are still doing research.
Our Government also has a budget that works on the "what you don't use you lose" system. I.E. If a department spends less than it did the previous financial year that money is deducted from the next years budget. In other words it penalises thrift and rewards waste.
Everyone should get angry and email or write to their representative about Government waste.
Jeff, Jim, note I said waste not spending.

Pete, as you make the point about waste, a friend noted to me that in Medicare the fraudulent payments are some $80 billion dollars. How much more was wasted during the Gulf spill where the various departments gave their opinion why the skimmer ships could not be used, and what it will cost either BP / tax payer to clean up because the government didn't act prudently.

Yes, ....hypocrite in the dictionary......

"The assumption of moral standards to which one's own behavior does not conform".

Jim, Once again, I contributed to unemployment as a employee for 15 years. I contributed as an employer for over 25 years. I collected once when I was 64 for 8 months. I did not collect illegally. Question, Is it immoral to collect a very, very small portion of something you have contributed to over a lifetime? Now you can continue your whine. The thread is about illegal immigration.

I was not suggesting that it was "immoral", Al.....morality and honorable are two different issues, at least to me.

As to the question of whether your pursuit of unemployment was "...an honorable act" or not, we each have our own definitions and parameters regarding those issues.....nobody can answer the question except you. In my case, it was a necessity, not an opportunity to enhance the savings account balance, which seems like somewhat of a superfluous justification (from Webster's online dictionary):
Main Entry: su·per·flu·ous <INPUT class=au title="Listen to the pronunciation of superfluous" onclick="return au('superf14', 'superfluous');" type=button itxtvisited="1">
Pronunciation: \su̇-ˈpər-flü-əs\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin superfluus, literally, running over, from superfluere to overflow, from super- + fluere to flow — more at fluid
Date: 15th century
1 a : exceeding what is sufficient or necessary : extra b : not needed : unnecessary

It seems to me that your justification was "greed", which is one of the serious "mortal" 7 deadly sins (and, as such, might be questionable even from the standpoint of "morality", depending on your own personal definition of what constitutes morality)! From Wikipedia:

The Seven Deadly Sins, also known as the Capital Vices or Cardinal Sins, is a classification of the most objectionable vices that has been used since early Christian times to educate and instruct followers concerning (immoral) fallen humanity's tendency to sin. The final version of the list consists of wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony. The Catholic Church divided sin into two principal categories: "venial sins", which are relatively minor and could be forgiven through any sacramentals or sacraments of the church, and the more severe "capital" or mortal sins. Mortal sins are believed to destroy the life of grace and create the threat of eternal damnation unless either absolved through the sacrament of Penance or forgiven through perfect contrition on the part of the penitent.

Now, following this train of thought further, if you believe that your acts were, indeed, serious enough to justify contrition, I would respectfully submit that if you were to give your SLC to Jim as an act of penance, that would certainly demonstrate to whatever higher power you recognize that you have, indeed, been appropriately penitent  !

Just MHO, though, and you know what they say about those!!

Doug, Greed had nothing at all to do with it. I contributed all of my life, I wanted to collect it just once. Had I known my moral standing, honor, and greediness would come into this I would never had mentioned it. Do I have to see a priest now? Geeez, I'm glad I don't smoke pot!

Al,
You are okay in my book. Every one of these guys might have made the same decision if they were in your shoes. You probably collected about $4500 before taxes and if that's the worst thing you ever did while a taxpaying citizen the good onya!
Jim is just trying to get your goat. Truth to tell, he would probably support a stranger doing exactly what you did if he didn't know if it was you. His attacks are getting more personal and has left me to suspect his objectivity in regards to the opinions that run counter to his own. Too bad, because if you guys were sitting down at the local pub and drinking some brewkies while discussing cars and other assorted motorized equipment, I bet you would get along like a couple of chums.

No need for a priest, perhaps if you would re-read my post you might see my most recent addition regarding "penance" :shy: .

So glad you saw the humor in that post, Al  !!

Cheers from Doug!

I'll start the paperwork tomorrow, or maybe the next day.....................

Be careful not to postpone too long, Al....after all, "sloth" is another of the deadly sins (again, from Wikipedia):

Sloth is defined as spiritual or emotional apathy, neglecting what God has spoken, and being physically and emotionally inactive. Sloth can also indicate a wasting due to lack of use, concerning a person, place, thing, skill, or intangible ideal that would require maintenance, refinement, or support to continue to exist.[citation needed]

You're spot on, Garry.....as I've come to know Jim, I've developed a great respect for his compassion for his fellow man. He's also passionate in his regard for right and wrong, he would certainly support a stranger in doing what Al has done....as would most of us "left-leaning" individuals! Personally, I do find it a bit dichotomous that Al seems to have such disdain for those who take advantage of social programs and yet he has engaged in exactly such activity as he finds so distasteful, but as I said, we each have our own ideas of what is morally defensible and "honorable". I am glad he wasn't offended when I had a bit of fun with it.

This type of thread is worthless venting in my opinion. In the end it doesn't seem to help anyone, and I learn nothing. In the end these threads lead me to judge certain people's character - rightly or wrongly. I'd like to ask people to think again before starting this kind of rant.
